Favoritism and boys club

Pros

Some decent 401k benefits after you work there a year, but health insurance is just ok unless you pick most expensive options. Some nice people working there that help to balance out the others.

Cons

So much favoritism, they expect you to agree with management and a lot of fake people, that are under qualified and uneducated, or have just been there a very long time hiding out, have job security and promotions. Surprised to see that it is old style boys club environment, where men are paid a lot more money and promoted more often in created positions. So much overspending and waste on frivolous things, yet they barely will give raises to the people actually doing the bulk of the work. Many people admit they are just on auto cruise until they can retire because they know they will get a paycheck while the company is still stable. Very negative gossiping environment with a lot of cliques.

Good place to work

Pros

Small team, feeling of a small business, with backing of Berkshire Hathaway. Business model has the longevity to remain viable for many years.

Cons

Manufacturing division reduced by 60% from 2000-2009. Many employees viewed as a number, no real desire to retain talent. Cash cow for Berkshire Hathaway.

Underappreciated and underpaid

Pros

Small company environment with catered lunches and cookouts. King's Island picnic for Cincinnati employees is sweet.

Cons

Very low pay Poor management - they promote people without consideration to their management capabilities and without management training. Very top heavy. You're either a peon or A VP. A lot of employees who've been there for too long and need to be fired. One coworker had been there for over 30 years, made very frequent mistakes, and got mad if you corrected her mistakes. As a result, others in the department had to fix her mistakes on top of their own work. Work load creep - they like to add on to your work load and tell you it's not enough to justify a raise until you're doing work that should be done by someone in a higher position for basically nothing. It takes 17 years or so to get promoted past hourly wage.
