Not a Happy Place

Pros

Free use of well equipped gym.

Cons

Fidelity used to be a great workplace where you were appreciated and rewarded for hard work. I looked forward to going to work every day. Then the take over..... New management imported its own people from Omaha and began pushing out the people who are from Jacksonville, putting well qualified, hard working people on the street. It seems that in order to qualify for a job in the Jacksonville claims center you must be under 25, stick thin and enjoy partying...a lot. After the takeover it was not a pleasant place to work. The people who have been on the job in Jacksonville for 5, 10 or 20 years worry about when the ax will fall on them. It's NOT a happy place to work any more. All they want is robots in micro mini skirts. It feels like high school all over again...cliques and all. In addition to all that, raised are non-existent.

Pros

Free coffee and office supplies. Bathroom breaks are not monitored. Conference room chairs are periodically steam cleaned.

Cons

Current Chief Claims Counsel came to Jax from Omaha and is now in charge of both centers. This person is a nearly-invisible, paranoid, mild- mannered bean counter whose only leadership and management tool is surprise firings. You won't think it upon meeting him and his recruiters, but he will fire anyone. To see the devastation our friend has wrought, take a look back a few years to the postings from Omaha which are almost exclusively claims related reviews. You will notice that the reviews are very bad and probably don't even average two stars. So the claims related reviews are much worse than the company as a whole, and portray a work environment that must be among the very worst anywhere. The firings occur in batches, so there are periods of relative calm, but don't be fooled. If you must take a position in claims, never stop looking for another job and take any decent opportunity even if the pay and benefits are not as good because your own surprise firing is likely just around the corner.

Pros

Facilities are very nice. Doughnuts once a month. You will deal with complex real property issues and have a good learning experience (regardless of how long they keep you for).

Cons

Managment communication and employee retention is horrible. The claims department is a revolving door comprised of disgruntled employees who leave because of lack of growth opportunity and somewhat experienced attorneys "terminated" to make way for the summer associates. A purge is done every August to make room for former summer associates. FNF will have you move to Jacksonville (or Omaha) and get rid of you for business reasons, but instead will say it was because of performance issues. You will start to see the effects of these terrible management decisions when someone disappears and claims are distributed amongst the other team members.
