Pros

I have no positive comments for this company.

Cons

I worked at this company for 2 years, I was moved to various different departments to lend a helping hand as I was told they needed someone they could rely on. I was praised and told I was doing a great job throughout the entire 2 years and was well above where they expected me to be which resulted in a decent pay rise all for it all not to matter on the exact date 2 years on from my start date where I was brought into a meeting and told I was being fired for "not doing my job properly" (bearing in mind my pay rise was only a couple of weeks before this meeting). I was also given a 2-week trial, after my pay rise, in a new position they created and was even given the option to stay in that role or go back to the Legal Secretary role. I told them I wanted to stay in the Legal Secretary role as there were more chances of moving up in the role than the other position. I was never given any evidence of not doing my job properly and no one could give examples in the meeting either. I had no prior meetings before this one indicating I wasn't performing as well as I should be and never received any warnings prior to this meeting either. I will also add that when I was brought into this meeting, I asked if everything was ok and was told that everything was fine and I had nothing to worry about which meant I went into the meeting assuming it was a normal catch up to see how I felt I was getting on, but I was informed wrong (I could have at least been told that it was going to be a formal meeting, this would have indicated that it was going to be a serious conversation). After this meeting, I wasn't allowed to go and get my belongings which I know you're not allowed to do but some of my things weren't picked up which meant I then had to contact them outside of the building to try and get my things sent back to me. To add as well, I worked with a Legal PA who started at the company a few years before I joined, and about 6 months before I was fired, she was pushed out and ended up quitting as there were false claims that she was not doing her job properly either (for the whole time she was at this company she was constantly praised and rewarded with pay rises for her great work). Once I had been fired, I also found out that the company was moving the Legal Secretary roles onto their staff in Belfast which only leads me to believe this was their calculated way of getting rid of staff members without having to give them redundancy money as they would be able to class it as firing someone rather than offering them redundancy. Overall, YOU DO NOT WANT TO WORK HERE...

Pros

The work is interesting, the clients are big and influential and so on. People are pretty friendly and nice on the whole. The pay is pretty good too. Senior management take the values seriously and it's generally a good place to work.

Cons

Fieldfisher Belfast has a really strange way of managing paralegals: an admin officer does it. She has no legal knowledge to speak of so it's completely mystifying how she ended up with those kinds of responsibilities. She doesn't even seem to have general knowledge - she once asked me if Brussels was a country!

Pros

Some wonderful and talented colleagues (although constantly overshadowed by teacher’s pets who are frankly unfit for purpose).

Cons

Common theme of employees being pushed out by Belfast management - a reason will be found to try and get rid of you if she chooses you as her next target. She will try to ruin your career if she takes a dislike to you. Management has other employees spy on members of their own team. If you want any kind of long term legal career don’t work here - you might as well work at a Kwik fit as the office is of the same standard. Management forced people to go in to the office during a PANDEMIC so she could maintain a social life with no regard for employee wellbeing.
