Organization is falling apart

Pros

Santa Barbara location is a great place to work!

Cons

Does not pay well enough for the work that is put in and the cost of living in Santa Barbara is high. Senior leadership is constantly making changes in leadership/structure. Enrollment is struggling and hast been for several years. There are senior leaders that should not be employed; they are unprofessional; have not made impact or significant improvement. There is constant turn over and no commitment to training staff. The university seems to have too many senior level management. They can't afford to pay staff but can afford to create VP positions.

Pros

Good people who believe in the mission, vision, values. Decent location in SB near restaurants and freeway exit. 37.5 hour workweek (in theory).

Cons

Continual cuts in benefits. Vacation used to be 4 weeks. Now it's 2 weeks for new employees. 20% cuts in retirement contribution for all employees. Consistent cuts in medical plan. This on top of very low pay, a consistent increasing workload and very poor management. The hemorrhaging of good and dedicated staff doesn't seem a big impact on management. Glass ceiling is very low. No real vertical mobility unless you have a friend in the inside group.

A Sinking Ship

Pros

They lure you in with a meaningful mission and good benefit package that includes vacation, health insurance, and matching 403b.

Cons

It's all talk. They don't embody their own mission. Don't be fooled. Salaries tend to be on the low side and there are no raises and very little room for growth. Departments are silo-ed and don't collaborate. With enrollment declining for more than 3 years, they are focused on keeping the boat afloat. Unfortunately, they don't have the leadership in place to accomplish this.
