Pros

free snacks sometimes? a paycheck?

Cons

Senior leadership has ZERO respect for the entire sales organization. I've never felt more marginalized by the two clueless founders than I have in my entire life. The pay for sales in the Bay Area is insulting and embarrassing but the founders were so cheap that they still insisted on hiring a sales team in Arizona so they could pay them ever less and present them with sales goals that are impossible to meet. Any true seasoned sales professional realized within a month or two that they were completely lied to about their commission prospects. The founders lie and lie and lie to trick people to work at this company that is excruciatingly stiff, boring and completely devoid of any personality. The founders bet big in the beginning that AutoDesk would simply buy them out and they would enjoy a large payday. Instead AutoDesk purchased a much better company in Plangrid that does the exact same thing, doesn't have the technical debt, and has an order of magnitude more paying customers. The buy out prospects are nonexistent, an IPO is a pipe dream, and the founders are mean and bitter to their employees, especially is sales, after they have come to grips with the fact that the backward sloping hockey stick growth is just never going to come and they have wasted so many hours and years developing mediocre software that is not going to make anyone rich. Sad I've never seen more sales talent come in from the front and disappear out the back in my entire career. It seems one of the hot headed, reactionary, and clueless founders will fire anybody on the spot if they pronounce "croissant" incorrectly or they aren't huge fans of curry.

Pros

a chance to work with talented people

Cons

- Clique-y groups. - CEO likes the sound of his own voice. - VPs are let go without notice every 3-6 months. - Company surveys taken biannually routinely imply employee morale is low and nothing is done about it. - Operations does not handle employee relations and HR related issues well. - Tone deaf to current events (comments on employee diversity, BLM movement, Pride month and violence against Asians) - CEO believes in encouraging employees by telling them to work harder and faster but not congratulating them on milestones reached/achieved.

Pros

Emerging industry with a lot of opportunities

Cons

Most everything. Horrible senior leadership, founding team was the worst. Completely turned over sales team three times in three years. Horrible training. On my first day the two founders took me out to lunch and made the statement that the product sells itself, so if we can't sell it there is something wrong with us. I thought this was a joke, but it wasn't. If this is/was true, why even hire sales?!?!
