Pros

Some really exceptional people in the studio

Cons

There is a huge issue with the way the studio is run and especially with Leadership. Just like another reviewer on here I too noticed the 5 Star review titled "The Right Direction". From experience, I can see that this was a feeble attempt by one of the studio heads in an attempt to improve the reviews. I say feeble, because it's very obvious who wrote it and that person is the most disliked in the studio. This studio has potential because people who work there are both very experienced and nice to work with. However, this studio lacks vision, technical prowess and the ability to look to the future of game development. If you want to work at a studio with a vision, culture and the ability to keep staff, then you may want to skip Firesprite.

So much wasted potential

Pros

- Friendly co-workers that are really passionate about making games - World class IP's to work on, a perk of being part of PlayStation - New studio looks really nice

Cons

- There is a clear lack of leadership, no one knows or communicates the short or long term plan, there is a sense of that the projects do not have an identity or direction (dev hell). - Projects are suffering because of the lack of direction and no one is taking ownership on how to change this, many in leadership don't even see the issue with running around in circles. - The studio uses bad development practices, there is always talks about "fixing the process" but nothing gets done, the last shipped project was a nightmare to work with, and the studio is making the same mistakes again - Morale is really low because nothing changes, first time I ever saw people leave before the end of probation, so they don't have to stay the notice period

Good People Blighted by Toxic Mismanagement

Pros

- The 'normal' employees (i.e. majority of non execs, including most directors) are great people with loads of talent. - Part of the Sony group (not sure how much of a pro that is anymore...) - Overall diversity and inclusion is good (or, was good, before everyone got made redundant) - Remote work (well, not sure they'd hire NEW remote workers, but hey)

Cons

- Utterly blighted by toxic leaders and general mismanagement I could write an essay about how this happened, but it boils down to one thing - the studio feels like it's in a death spiral of its own making. The two main guys at the top have had a Eurogamer article written on their funny business which didn't cover half of it really, and have no business running a studio and have mismanaged it into the ground. The redundancies are one thing but honestly there was a crazy amount of attrition, brain-drain and rock-bottom morale even beforehand. - Nothing changes. A follow on from the above really. The devs know what the issues are. We know what the solutions are. We've had the retros - lots of them. But we can't make the people with the power to actually change things at the highest level listen. And so nothing changes, leading to more wasted time, effort, and talent. - Gutted by redundancies And hard to see a way back from it. We'll see if the studio even exists in another 2 years time...
