Pros

Large variety of technology to work on - Schools have to run a lot of enterprise level systems a team of talented technology professionals - the core technical staff are a great team to work with A good stepping stone job to get started in technology - they have a lot of entry level positions

Cons

Very few vertical promotion options CEO is no longer involved with the company's day to day The communicated vision, plan, and strategy no longer match actions taken by the company. Most communication feels hostile and and accusing Workloads per employee are unrealistic and getting worse as core staff have left without backfill. Desire to automate to increase efficiency but unwilling to put in the proper effort to build it

Pros

Good pay, good benefits, good if you have extensive IT experience

Cons

This company services a lot of different schools, and I think I got unlucky. In addition to the office having no windows, my main coworker treated me like his therapist, and i didn't really get adequate training. Any attempts to do things differently were quickly squashed. He also got irritated if I took adequate time for lunch. I felt overwhelmed and incredibly bored at the same time, and I'm glad I left.

Pros

-Five Star is growing, bringing on lots of new clients; for a company that started in 2005, they've made quite a positive name for themselves -No micromanagement as an onsite technician -Broad exposure to a lot of different areas for entry-level people: networks, servers, wireless, phone system, and so on -Great people (depending on which site you work at); the TMS team really seems to get along well -$3,000 annual training bonus after your first year, and $500 the day you start -Company-provided shirts

Cons

-Low pay (MSP with public school clients...yeah, you're not going to make much...breaking $40k is tough to do) -Very, very little time off: 5 days after you finish your first year (no days your first year) -Can be a sink-or-swim environment if you aren't a techie; if you are a techie, you'll probably shine...lots of people who think they know what they're talking about, but don't

Thanks for taking the time to provide some honest feedback. We agree with you on all points, and we especially appreciate the kind words about our culture. It is true that we are committed to hiring top-notch folks with the experience, communication, and relationship-building skills to meet the needs of our schools. As far as salary, the good news is that we are committed to the professional growth for all employees, and we fill positions internally as much as possible.
