Pros

The product is enjoyable to sell.

Cons

Never have I worked in an environment where I was made to feel so disposable, unsupported, bullied and backed into a corner. They will tell you that "a start up isn't for everyone" but being a start up doesn't give the ok to treat people like they are worthless and disposable. There is no HR department for support, instead they suggest you speak with management who consists of the CEOs sisters. If you are not comfortable speaking with one of the sisters then your other option is to take up the free online "counselling session" provided by the company which washes their hands of responsibility. Performance reviews are conducted without a third party present which then turns into a he said she said situation. No previous meetings with any warning are issued and if you don't agree and achieve everything noted then you are let go after 4 weeks. You are made to feel that you cannot express your views with other colleagues as this is not "flash pack" and is highly frowned upon. You must always be positive and if you do speak up it is usually shut down pretty quickly. You are made to work extra hours without pay, join meetings on your days off and be available 24/7. There was no work life balance. Benefits are promoted as perks but are only given to selected few and rejected for others. Overall, Flash Pack is not the Disneyland they pretend to be.

Flash Pack Response

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns. First and foremost, I’m deeply saddened to hear your comments and thank you for the opportunity to publicly address the issues you’ve raised. The experience of being released from a company is understandably devastating no matter the conditions and I’m sorry you feel hurt. We are a very high-growth startup and our environment isn’t one in which everyone can flourish but we work hard to ensure we give everyone the best chance possible - demonstrated by the fact that it takes us on average 8 months to make the decision to release someone and only once we feel we have exhausted all avenues. Our recent independently verified Flexa score does not reflect your sentiments: > 77% of staff recently said they have work-life balance which is an incredible achievement for a high-growth company. Where we have identified a small number of people struggling with their workload we have supported them to re-prioritise. > 96% of staff said they had complete autonomy over getting their work done > 93% said they felt flexible working is part of the culture at Flash Pack > 88% of staff very happy with the flexibility in the hours they work PROMOTIONS: We review progression of 6 months. Last summer 33% of employees were promoted. Last week 32% of the team were promoted including: 67% Female (33% male) 39% from minority groups Diversity and Inclusion: I fervently disagree with your comments on our DE&I Initiatives. We have worked tirelessly to ensure: > No gender and ethnicity pay gaps exist at Flash Pack due to our trailblazing transparent pay policy > We pay generous sick leave allowance, make work-place adjustments for our employees who have declared a disability > We allow employees to work from abroad to accommodate personal life a number of employees with disabilities have been supported to promotion. There is always more to do and we acknowledge there are limits to how much support we can give especially when there is an issue of consistent underperformance. But our stats speak to how hard we have worked and dedication to creating an inclusive workplace for all. Of 78 staff across the globe: > 40% identify as BAME > 4% have declared a disability > 60% female workforce, 34% male and 2% other > 60% of the leadership team are female and 17% BAME We are very proud of the workplace culture we have created. Breaking My Silence: Behind The Curtain at Flash Pack

Pros

I was fortunate to work with many talented and amazing colleagues during my tenure.

Cons

It has been brought to my attention that the CEO has publicly referenced inaccurate details of my recent dismissal while responding to two reviews, 'A Stark Contrast Between Image and Reality at Flash Pack' and 'Staff Treated as Disposable and Toxic Positivity'. Time and time again I have over-extended grace and understanding to the company, however, observing such conduct is disappointing. The public disclosure of my firing, riddled with inaccuracies, has forced me to break my silence, clarify a few things and share my side of the story. I do this with the hope that senior management can take accountability for their mistakes, cease to paint former employees as hurt, and can go forward in creating an equitable safe environment for all. The CEO's public comments on my dismissal under reviews that neither involved me directly nor mentioned my situation is shocking and highly unprofessional. To the authors of those reviews, the company’s response reads incongruous as their suspicions around who had written them took precedent over meaningfully addressing grievances raised. I was saddened to read that former colleagues had gone through experiences akin to mine, and the irony of this situation hasn't gone unnoticed. The inability to fathom that these experiences are not isolated incidents speaks to the wider systemic issues within Flash Pack. Moreover, referencing positive reviews when met with negative feedback is a strong indicator of Flash Pack’s attitude towards accountability and progression. My Experience: During my eight-month tenure at Flash Pack, I reported to three different managers and witnessed the dismissal of 5-6 colleagues in manners described by others. While startup culture often involves rapid changes this does not negate the valid concerns expressed by former colleagues regarding the company’s high turnover rate and chaotic management style. Contrary to the claims made, I had been very open about my neurodivergence (anxiety) from the start, with all three of my managers. However, instead of receiving the expected support or reasonable adjustments, my disclosure led to discussions around senior management's personal discomfort with my anxiety. Consequently, I was burdened with the challenge of managing my mental health while excelling in my role, amid concerns that senior management may interpret my anxiety as a weakness. Although I excelled in my role, my probation period was extended, despite assurances from my managers that I was performing well. This decision was not based on any shortcomings in my performance, but rather due to management admitting poor departmental structuring. Furthermore, they admitted that I was operating at a level significantly above my initial levelling. However, CMO misrepresented my contributions and capabilities, citing adaptation to a new role as the reason. It's crucial to emphasise that this new role necessitated scaling back my abilities and working at a lower capacity within the department. The final blow came after only ten days of working under a new framework designed for my role's 'new direction'. Despite seeking support for my deteriorating mental health, I was abruptly dismissed, with senior management unable to articulate a valid reason for their decision beyond vague implications of fit.

Failures Worth Sharing: Flash Pack Needs A Reality Check

Pros

- The colleagues at Flash Pack are genuinely talented, kind, and passionate about their work. They are the only saving grace in an otherwise chaotic environment. - The concept of the pay transparency framework is brilliant...even if its execution feels like assembling IKEA furniture without the instructions.

Cons

Flash Pack markets itself as a dream workplace, but my experience here has been far from the glossy image portrayed. Transparency is non-existent when it comes to company targets or what leadership truly wants to achieve. Employees are constantly overworked, yet due to a culture of gaslighting, no one feels safe admitting to burnout. Instead of addressing these issues, they are dismissed or deflected by leadership, leaving staff to silently suffer. The pay transparency framework, a central pillar of Flash Pack’s ethos, is admirable in theory. Unfortunately, in practice, it benefits only a select few departments, leaving others wondering if fairness is simply a buzzword. It’s like building a bridge halfway across a river, you can see the potential, but it doesn’t quite get you where you need to go. The CEO appears disconnected from reality, preferring to hide behind curated LinkedIn posts that gloss over serious issues like the lack of work-life balance, underpayment, and a toxic "reward system" that only acknowledges employees who work 24/7. Favouritism and nepotism run rampant, particularly among managers and the C-suite, fostering an environment where biases flourish. Employees are afraid to raise concerns, as doing so often feels like risking their job security. While the company champions "radical candour," in practice, it only flows in one direction, from the top down. Any feedback or concerns challenges by employees are ignored, met with hostility and of course, more gaslighting. Burnout is rampant, and bringing it up feels like asking for a “motivational” speech about resilience instead of tangible solutions, with work-life balance treated more as an aspiration than a policy. When concerns are raised, the response often feels dismissive or, worse, coated in corporate jargon. Recognition seems reserved for those willing to forgo personal boundaries in favour of relentless productivity. When redundancies were made, employees were blindsided. There was no communication, no warning, and no transparency. Leadership offered false reassurances that everything was fine, making the lack of honesty and foresight difficult to reconcile with the company’s stated "values". I fully anticipate the CEO responding to this review with a flurry of statistics and surface level justifications rather than addressing the real issues. This unwillingness to confront reality perpetuates the delusions of leadership and continues to undermine what could have been a truly thriving workplace. While I genuinely wish Flash Pack the best, these systemic issues need attention. Until they are resolved, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company to anyone.
