Pros

- Inspiring mission to feed families affordably and reduce food waste - Team is friendly, hard working and inclusive - Extended holiday weekends - Fully remote - Fun virtual team events - Good benefits package including parental leave

Cons

- Some senior management team members are inexperienced and ineffective - Beware: Company has recently laid off some team members in Canada and rehired the same roles out of the US. They have also hired US team members and let them go a few weeks / months later because of a change in direction - Culture can be very focused on nonstop work, but priorities turn on a dime - Some senior management team members are driven by who you know versus skill set

We agree with you on the mission being inspiring, and thank you for being part of it. We are committed to balancing national diversity in each team as we fill roles that become available. While there have been no layoffs, there will always be changes to structure as the needs of our customers evolve.

Pros

Mission driven purpose and teams with passionate employees. The team is kind and supportive and there is a group effort with much collaboration.

Cons

CEO needs to get out of the way and let his org function in order to grow. Some founders are best being champions of the cause and not leading the work. The core culture has potential but unfortunately the CEO drives an environment of toxic masculinity and lacks respect for the team.

Overworked, underpaid, inexperienced leadership, all talk no action

Pros

- Most people not in leadership are very kind and passionate about the mission - The product is actually helping people who are low income and food insecure - We had lots of fun team events (even the virtual ones were good) - Business model is solid and sustainable if execution is good

Cons

- Management is deeply inexperienced at best and some are actually toxic (racist, sexist comments/behaviour) and bad at their jobs but keep getting promoted because they are friends with other leaders. - Lots of ego in leadership and unwilling to listen to people in the company with actual domain experience. - Lots of talk of "caring" for employees and "listening" to feedback but concerns are often ignored or you're gaslit into "this is normal for startups" with no effort to improve. - Most people are extremely underpaid and overworked under the pretense of "not diluting the shares" which really only benefits leadership with lots of shares. - Product leadership provides very little direction or strategy to their team. Product managers rarely talk to users and improvements to product don't ever ship. - Operations focuses only on new stores with no support for existing business. - Very little transparency into how the business is doing, very vague answers on contracts and financial health.

Flashfood appreciates any positive or constructive feedback shared on Glassdoor. We will continue to encourage feedback to be shared directly with us, or anonymously from current or previous teammates. We take allegations of racist or sexist behaviour very seriously, and would encourage and hope anyone who has experienced this kind of behaviours to contact me directly so an internal investigation can be launched. Josh, our CEO, has personally reached out to previous employees to ask about their experience with this type of behaviour and get more clarity on what has been said. So far, no former or current employee has shared that they’ve experienced any of these scenarios while working at Flashfood. The reviews have also encouraged us to send out an internal pulse survey to get more anonymous feedback from our current employees. Glassdoor does not allow files to be uploaded, but please message me directly if you are interested in seeing the results. We will never be perfect, but we are committed to doing our best and that means focusing on our company culture, communicating more around our long term goals and financial information, and developing processes such as an annual compensation review. These changes will hopefully provide more transparency to our teammates and show that we hear them. In addition to these improvements, we have also committed to introducing an external company to provide training for our people leaders in early 2022. If you have any additional feedback to share, please feel free to message me on LinkedIn.
