Great people, incompetent management, inadequate product

Pros

- people are talented and fun to hang out with, culture was great (pre-covid)

Cons

- CEO and management have no vision, mission, or strategy, which is reflected in the weak product, inability to sell the product, and minimal sales growth. - Weak product. It might have been innovative 7 years ago, but with no major improvements since, it's become primitive compared to competition. No clear product vision or strategy to steer the company around. - Wrong people promoted to leadership/management positions. Management team were great individual contributors, but have never had true management experience, thus unable to lead and cultivate a high-performing team. High turn-over reflects this. - Company focuses too much on fluffy self-promotion (interviews, meaningless awards, stuffy bios, news articles), not nearly enough on building a great company and product. - Flybits touts itself as an AI and data company, but no real AI exists in the product. How many AI engineers work at the company? - Culture used to be amazing, but has turned highly political and toxic. Lots of finger-pointing and blaming when things go wrong. Management is too focused on who's to blame, rather than fixing the problem. Founding members contribute enormously to toxic culture.

Pros

Lots of great people and talent at Flybits. Many individual contributors in engineering are the best in Toronto.

Cons

Toxic leadership leads to rushed timelines on projects that do not go anywhere. Lots of work but no innovation or finishing meaningful work. Employees who provide a lot of value and refreshing ideas get stonewalled and leave to move on to top companies.

Cons

- Lack of autonomy - No clear direction for the company, large strategic shifts made on a monthly basis - Senior leadership team have extremely poor management skills and don't listen to their teams - No room for career progression - Sales and solutions teams override product decisions, leaving devs to scramble and build with no clear requirements - There are no customers and the sales team struggled to sell the product - Work had no impact and was not appreciated - HR terrible at handling employee recommendations and ignored all feedback - CEO had no idea where to take the company, running it like a sweatshop - Management have no real-world experience as they all joined the company right out of school
