Pros

- Free drinks and a nice office – the basic startup kit.

Cons

- The company’s management has neither the experience nor the skills to run it. - The way the company treats its employees is shockingly bad – I have seen HR (HR!!!) respond to an email thread mocking a question or comment done by other employees. - The salaries are also incredibly low, and I came from other startups in Berlin, so I know this is low even for the industry standards. - The promises about pay rises or promotions were either never kept or postponed for years. - The company promised an attractive bonus system before signing the contract – not only were the bonuses designed to be almost impossible to achieve, they were eliminated within a few months, with nothing to replace them. - The environment inside the company is really bad. - Big salary gap between Germans and non-Germans. Also, the treatment given to German employees is very different to the one given to people from other countries, and this type of discrimination is very frustrating in a company that prides itself to be international and fun. If you are wondering why there are so many good reviews on this website, it’s because HR asks the employees to review the company during the first days of their employment, when employees have encountered very few conflicts.

Pros

Nice office in a central location. Free beer. Friendly co-workers, for the most part.

Cons

The lowest wages a startup can possibly offer, unless you're German, then you have the privilege of higher pay. There is also literally no plan for career paths. Your starting position will most likely be your only position (unless they radically restructure the office without warning and let you invent your own title). The management is appalling. They are neither interested, nor in any way invested, in their staff. They will sooner see you walk out the door than actually implement a change you suggest. Zero respect for pretty much any lower-level employee as far as I could tell, with most of them considered merely to be "filling chairs". There is a complete lack of vision, leading to a change in tact one month, with little followup, and another change of direction a month or two later. The atmosphere is toxic, rampant with cronyism, closed-door discussions and suspicion. Psychological bullying It's a very unpleasant environment to spend every weekday of your life. You will have to fight like a dog for months to get a pay rise, and, even if you do fight, you might instead be offered an extra day or two of holiday each year. As another reviewer mentioned, the almost comically unattainable bonuses were abolished without warning and with no replacement. You will not feel in any way rewarded by the company for any work you do.

Fonpit AG Response

Dear Reviewer! Thank you for taking your time to review your employment experience at Fonpit AG. Looking at the last review before yours, it seems you had someone to exchange your experiences with. We really would have appreciated, if you had taken the chance to discuss your concerns and opinions with the management while still being employed. Doing so afterwards is what causes suspicion and a toxic environment. We offer a lot of formats where questions and concerns can be raised. And it's a pity to see those matters only coming up after leaving the company. As salaries have been a subject twice now...: Salaries at Fonpit are evidently at market range considering the business and the location. All salaries are determined by education, experience and (as a matter of fact) negotiations - just as in every other company. Raises have to be earned by performance. They are part of our daily business which can easily be proven by talking to existing (also non-German) staff. As much as we do appreciate being honest and open in reviews like this, we'd also appreciate sticking to facts and respectful consideration of thoughts when publishing. Thanks a lot! Claudia (HR Manager)

Pros

Very good team spirit, company events, the smiles from everyone you get every morning and extremely central office (although located in the middle of a not so safe roads crossing).

Cons

- The clear communication is definitely there, however informations are highly filtered so that employees do have the feeling of partecipating to the whole process, but many infos are unfortunately kept to the higher management. - Performances are judged mainly based on personal simpathy, of course according to departments as I do not know how it looks like in others. People can be fired as soon as they do something wrong, which instead ins oem cases can be easily discussed and solved - Management is not very open to critics and has the tendence to apply an I-know-it-all approach, also when proved to be wrong. Just to have an examples of it, I did witness few times a colleague of mine correcting my boss and the boss eventually telling the team "he" found out that a specific thing he stated was actually wrong and we had to do changes thanks to his findings. My colleague has never been thanked for that. - Gossip, mainly on Skype, and drinking in office since 3pm are apparently higher priorities than fair payments and getting a raise, even after having shown improvements and having reached set targets, is quite humilatying. In the best case scenarios one could eventually get a minimal raise on an already low salary. Important note: hope the HR does not bother to comment on this and is honest enough to admit what has been written in previous reviews. I have been professionally active in the Berlin market for years and I do know 100% what is the average salary in the different industries according to different seniority and experience and regarding one particular department Fonpit lacks of fairness big time. Glassdoor, Kununu and other job interviews in the past proved me I am absolutely right. But I am surethis will not prevent from finding a way to defend once again the company on a this evident fact. Sad, because a well paid employee is proven to be more efficient than an under-paid one.
