It's about who you know, not what you know.

Pros

Great people (although they getting fewer as the place gets overrun with ex Heinz employees and the Fonterra people are retrenched). Reasonable salaries paid.

Cons

Knowing that at some point in the near future you will be retrenched. If you want a stable company where you feel "safe" don't work at Fonterra. How does management expect us to live the Fonterra values when we all know our days are numbered.

Pros

Products are fantastic, interesting industry with interesting challenges.

Cons

Stuck in horribly bureaucratic processes, the IT team has gone backwards over the past 3 years with no signs of this changing - despite the long term downward spiral and of recognition of the lack of progress. IT general managers promote those they know, not the best person for the job. Before I left the IT team in Auckland made 7 people redundant - 6 of 7 are women, one of whom was pregnant. I don't think this was malicious, just a clear indication of how the IT general managers cannot apply a wider lens to their decision making and there is no thought to consequences...

Pros

Fonterra in NZ is a national institution, highly regarded and a major contributor to the Agri sector in the country. In NZ very well resourced, LOT's of people, LOT's of money and a massive investment plan.

Cons

Outside of NZ, a complete lack of potential, management with a "I must survive" mentality and "its not my role". Reactive, narrow and risk adverse.......a blame culture. The situation in NZ is partly responsible for a NZ mentality of "isolation" across the mid to upper management based on "if I am not involved, I cannot be held responsible", in Australia managements view is "keep them out or they will find out what we are doing/not doing" so the status-quot prevails.
