Pros

At the start of the school year, there is usually a pep rally involving every employee in the district. Communication from the Superintendent via email is very good.

Cons

The Superintendent should make an effort to know what is occurring in his administrative departments. For example, in the Special Education Department, jobs were eliminated recently, and those affected at the top levels are disproportionately African-Americans. This is happening with an African-American superintendent at the helm! All of those people are not incompetent. A district-wide researched based reading program has not been in place for years. The number of campuses that are struggling is growing.

Pros

Small district, well organized, and easy to move around. Student population is very diverse within the majority of the district. Pays fairly well...

Cons

The district penny pinches in areas that you will notice. Money is not distributed well to campuses that actually need it, so if a parent booster club does not exist then the campus REALLY suffers. The culture in Fort Bend empowers parents and students before teachers, which makes it hard to handle discipline issues. Your classroom management is your ONLY friend. The teacher's union sucks...but you'll sign up for the month fee regardless because no one shows up to court without representation, even when you know that your lawyer SUCKS! Fort Bend is more inclined to hire principals and assistant principals who have no backbone to stand up against unruly kids and parents, but will rather spend their time micromanaging teachers. I'm not saying all principals fit this mold but the majority definitely do. The faculty members who do not agree with this practice will eventually leave because of this reason. Finally, your will not be adequately paid for everything you do. Stipends need to be reorganized.
