This company thinks that a spreadsheet in google sheets constitutes organization/process. No project, which is great when everyone works remote. Orientation is a 30 min PowerPoint presentation designed by a kindergartener, who incidentally also designed their websites. So in the end you’re left asking a lot of questions and waiting for answers.
My personal story: I’m an email marketer, been at it for 6 years now, pretty good at it. I was hired to be a marketing consultant at Fortimize. The role encompassed using tools I’ve never used before, I told them this in the interview. They insisted I had the right skills for the job, and I thought I must since the only test they gave me before being hired was a coding test, which I easily passed. I turned down two other job offers and accepted the role because I felt with this role and company I’d get to learn new skills and grow professionally. Two months later I was let go. When asked why I was told,”I don’t have to tell you.” Yeah, that’s what kind of company this is. Fire a guy without even telling him why. I pushed for info and eventually was told that I’m not qualified for the role. Duh! We knew this going into it but apparently training and career growth wasn’t on their minds, they expected that just by hiring me I’d miraculously learn the things I didn’t know. When I didn’t absorb the info through osmosis, I was let go.
What should you take out of this? If they offer you a job, make sure you are an expert in every little bit of it, or be prepared for a short tenure. Also, they are really proud of their benefits for some reason. 10 days of pto for vacation and sick combined. Most startups offer unlimited pto. Most other companies offer something like 10-15 vacation, 3-5 days sick, 2 personal days. Fortimize: 10 days, that’s it. Just wanted to mention that, I was lied to during the interview process and told it was more. At least you’ll be informed.
