Pros
Foss is a maritime company. If you like working in a maritime environment - tugboats and barges - this is your scene. The work is enjoyable. Everything else: see below. Most of my fellow employees were professional and did great work. It's not with them that the problem lies. The problem lies with management/office workers who don't believe in the right of the maritime side to make a living in the practice of their trade.
Cons
This company does not value their employees. In the bay area, the majority of their workers are call-out employees with no guarantee of work . They expect you to be available at all hours of the day, but only call at the last minute when they need people. This is the bay area. There is no way to make enough this way to make a living in the bay area. Either they need to reduce the workforce until their is a stable number that can make a livable salary, or offer a minimum number of hours monthly. When I worked for them as a callout I was expected to attend all company safety meetings and courses, but then not called for work upwards of a month at a time. When I questioned this tactic and asked why I'd been hired if there was no work, my attitude was called into question. The company does not like its employees to question the tactics of management. You are expected to fall into line and graciously accept the crumbs off the table after management has taken its slice of the pie. I was led to believe that my employment would be full-time and earn me enough salary to live in the bay. I was misled. And when I made mention of this to management, I was given the label of troublemaker.
