Pros

None, the last vestiges of what made the company decent are long gone. See below.

Cons

You may be reading Glassdoor reviews on FourKites as a job seeker, most likely from the recent blitz of hiring announcements. You have to ask yourself though, why is FourKites suddenly trying to fill so many roles? Is it because the company is truly experiencing phenomenal growth, or is it because they need to backfill positions from so many people quitting? Spoiler alert: it’s the latter. Setting aside the unbelievable rate at which FourKites chews through engineers, support specialists, and other technical personnel in Chennai, India, let’s take a look at what’s happening in the Chicago office. Here are some facts: -401k matching, suspended -Accruing vacation time while on parental leave, gone -Insurance premiums, doubled What’s confounding is how these and other measures were deemed absolutely necessary for FourKites to stay viable during COVID-19, but somehow spending $500K on a one-day, virtual user conference is perfectly acceptable. Not to mention, where's all the money that was allotted for hotel and travel, happy hours, team outings, Fooda lunches, in-office snacks/beverages, catering, etc. going to now? At least the tech reimbursement was bumped up to $30 per pay period from $15, so we got that going for us which is nice LOL #teamwork Not to worry, after several months of proving value through your self-created Employee Development Plan, on top of the 60+ hours/week you’re already putting in, you’ll be on the fast track for a promotion, right? As vigorously as that carrot is dangled, you’ll find that there were never any real intentions of promoting from within. What a sly way to squeeze out as much value possible without having to actually compensate employees for the extra effort. #fun Best case, you may be able to transfer to a position on another team with a very modest pay bump. The COO touts these lateral moves as promotions and are becoming rarer and rarer. And with the rampant favoritism, don’t even bother if you’re not already in her good graces. Speaking of the COO, read the FourKites Glassdoor review titled “Issues are top down” dated October 30, 2018 to learn more about her. Absolute truth. The culture of fear now permeates every level of Operations. Managers won’t action, let alone acknowledge, issues brought up by their teams out of fear of looking bad. In fact, when faced with even the slightest bit of heat from the C-suite, they are quick to throw their subordinates under the bus. #trust I suppose they're just following the example set forth by the COO: deflecting blame, having no conviction in what they espouse, and blatantly disregarding their employees’ mental health and well-being. This, combined with filling leadership roles from outside the company (oftentimes with candidates with no supply chain experience), leads to managers who don’t ever fully grasp what FourKites does at a tactical or strategic level. Is it any wonder that they’re so clueless and ineffectual?

Thank you for your feedback. We're incredibly proud of the work we are doing with Empathy Awareness Training, driving the right behavior for all employees to seek to understand, find clarity, and listen to others through candid conversations. We're all working to be better. Employee unrest occurs when there are unmet expectations or undelivered communication. We want every employee to feel heard, valued, and included while sharing our values of leading with empathy through trust and transparency. To the extent that hasn't happened for you, we're sorry. We may not get it right all the time, however, the organization and our valued employees have accomplished a lot. We lead with good intentions and understand the impact may not always land as intended. We'll try to address some of your concerns here: As our fiduciary responsibility to our employees and stakeholders, we've had to make tough decisions for the business in light of covid-19, including temporarily pausing our company 401(k) contribution benefit. We do feel fortunate that we haven't had to furlough employees or reduce salaries, like many other companies are faced with during this time. We are pleased that the 401(k) match has returned as of November 1st. Since the company's inception, we've continued to offer benefit rich programs that offer flexibility, quality, and choice, including medical benefits that puts us in the top 10% of benefit offerings compared to similar companies. While changes to various policies happen from time to time as the business continues to mature and grow, we understand those changes are not always welcomed. The caveat to the PTO accrual while on extended leave is not exclusive to parental leave. It applies to anyone on an extended leave, which is covered under FMLA/STD/LTD. This is standard and we are happy to provide more clarity in the future when these changes occur. We try to balance initiatives and organizational readiness. We have done a lot of work in a short period of time on programs to enhance career development. These include completing documented career paths for all employees, employee development plans, manager training, monthly All Hands and Managers' Town Halls. Employees and managers can always have career and growth opportunity conversations at any time outside of our feedback opportunities including quarterly check-ins, weekly 1:1's, and annual performance reviews. We understand we move fast, we can slow down to speed up. We are agile in a very innovative product and customer driven org in a disruptive industry that can be challenging at times. We are committed to continuous improvement and deploy regular employee pulse surveys and conduct monthly global Q&A sessions to ensure employee voices are heard.

Pros

New office is close to transportation and lots of dining options. There is also an AmazonGo in the building and top of the line gym.

Cons

When I joined FourKites, I expected the chaos that comes along with working at a startup. I didn't anticipate the extraordinary level of dysfunction that is caused by the executive team. The executive dysfunction and toxicity permeates throughout the entire organization and has become the FourKites culture. I feel as if individual contributors and middle-managers are caught in the blame game of the executive team. Rather than communicate cross functionally, the CEO sets up meetings with random people to encourage finger pointing and gossiping. Recently, confidential employee data (salary, bonus, shares) leaked, and has caused fights and hostility throughout the entire company. Promotions are random and career progression is almost non-existent. The most challenging part of the culture is that it's getting worse, and there is no way to voice grievance or try to to fix it. It's a very difficult place to show up on a daily basis.

Pros

Fast growing company Typical perks such as snacks, happy hours, etc Decent compensation Some teams seem to be happy Some cool, smart people

Cons

Poor leadership - the C-Suite in particular is made up of people who were never quite qualified to be there There is little room to go outside the box if it means not following the rules of some subpar middle manager The product itself - it's cool because it's solving a need in an old space. But the product team sucks. They constantly push out new features at the whim of closing a deal, meanwhile the core feature, load tracking, still doesn't function well. The CPO came from Tivo (lol) and is more like a business development person. They treat the engineers in India like cattle, but because the CPO, CTO and CEO are all Indian, they somehow get a pass for this. Lack of transparency. It's not uncommon to be completely out of the loop on things. The culture was never empowering.

FourKites wants to acknowledge that we have reviewed this post. Due to the highly personal and negative nature we choose not to engage here. We value constructive and respectful suggestions and feedback from employees, past employees, and candidates. We choose not to engage in a conversation when it’s rooted in disrespect and personal attacks on our valued team. Our goal is to attract, retain, reward, and support our valued team members and to the extent an individual did not have that experience, we’re sorry.
