Rewarding Work. Terrible Pay.
Pros
Working with individuals with disabilities is the most rewarding job I've ever held. And if you work 1 on 1 with your consumer, it's also good for your consumer -- because they need help doing things we all take for granted, like shopping, dressing, prepping and cooking meals, doing laundry, reaching their goals, and just general support.
Cons
With the arrival of the new CEO Craig Cloud and the 2020 Pandemic, a large portion of our workforce was cut and instead of working 1 on 1 with consumers we started working with up to 8 consumers at a time. Doing the work of 8 people. That's not fair to the consumers nor the staff. Management cares more about the money than the consumers or employees. We were constantly understaffed and forced to work tons of overtime. Also, the benefits are not good at all. No vacation or sick pay for DSP's. You'll work holidays. Also, you'll need to provide your own equipment -- like cell phone and/or tablet. They expect a lot for the tiny amount they pay.
