Pros

Wonderful location in Belfast, Maine. Excellent falafel truck next door.

Cons

Potential experienced employee candidate beware. Front Street really gives a great first impression of being a very capable, well supported and laid back boat yard. They can successfully complete large projects on the macro level, however they have deep seeded micro issues. First and foremost, I was fired for having Covid-related symptoms. Not laid off. Terminated after leaving a really great previous job at another boat yard to come work for FSS for more money and a shorter commute from my home. I am a highly skilled, experienced, competent and friendly technician with good communication skills. I was given no warnings or any negative feedback during my length of employment. I followed all protocol communicated to me by HR and my supervisors regarding being sick, and their response was to terminate me while I was recovering at home. The only reason given was "it was not a good fit". I live by myself with close to no interaction with others in the public world, so I firmly believe I also contracted while working at FSS as the majority of employees and management back in October were not wearing masks. I was. Shame on them. If you are a small boat/yacht owner shopping around for service and reading reviews, you may want to reconsider bringing your boat to FSS. In my short time with FSS, I found many boats which were not properly being taken care of by the yard, including batteries being completely drained to the point of needing replacement due to FSS negligence, as well as many employees not taking care with footwear and tools around wood work / varnish. From a technician's point of view, FSS is completely inefficient when it comes to availability of very basic parts/hardware that should be kept in stock. They are wasting time and customer's money. Additionally, this yard is riddled with toxic masculinity and poor work ethic, spare the very exceptional few. If this was my experience, I am sure other current and former employees are having similar experiences. I do now see the only other review for FSS on Glassdoor is also 1 star.
