Management Issues

Pros

- Team is made up of really intelligent, hardworking, kind people; feels like a family at work. - Team is good at recognizing and appreciating others' successes - you will feel valued by the people around you at FundThrough. - Management is open to new ideas and receiving employee feedback (though I don't feel that this feedback is always taken very seriously - at least they are wiling to listen). - Perks: good transit location; snacks on snacks on snacks, convenient remote work or work-from-home policy.

Cons

- Very poor communication from management to rest of team. - Messy internal processes, lacks internal resources to deal with management issues, or provide professional development or feedback to new managers. - Does not appear to be a lot of room for internal upward mobility as an employee. - In my experience, poor compensation compared to industry standards.

Thank you for the feedback. It is important to us to hear both the good experiences and those that could have been improved. As a fast growing start up we want to be sure to acknowledge that we've made mistakes (and will likely make more). In response to past feedback surrounding improving communication, one of the things we have worked hard on is making sure we live up to our value of open and honest, such as through management being open to new ideas and receiving feedback, as the original poster stated. It is certainly understandable that it can be difficult when not all of these ideas are prioritized. We have been thoughtful about our compensation and feel it is fair given our size and place in the industry, even if perhaps in this particular case we may have missed the mark. Finally, internal upward mobility opportunities is an area that we will evaluate more closely in the coming months and even in situations where we can't meet someone's growth needs internally, as we have done previously, we will remain committed to coaching and setting them up for success elsewhere.

Pros

The wage is more-or-less fine

Cons

This company has been calling itself a "startup" for over 10 years, which seems to be more of an excuse to hide their lack of proper management and their frequent poor business decisions. They claim to have core values, but these values exist only on paper—or rather, on the wall. In reality, they don’t follow them at all. When employees leave honest and "confidential" reviews, instead of addressing the concerns and working on improvements, management is quick to question why the feedback was negative. They never take responsibility or show any intention of reflecting on their mistakes. It's always a case of blaming external factors rather than saying, "Thank you for the feedback, it seems like we have some issues to address." If you’re considering working here, be warned: this company does not take employee feedback seriously, and it seems content to remain stagnant rather than evolve and improve. Avoid if you value professional growth, transparency, and a supportive work environment.

We definitely agree that after 10 successful years, we should stop calling ourselves a Start-Up. Going forward, we will refer to FundThrough as a Scale-Up. Thanks for the suggestion! We're sorry that FundThrough wasn't the right place for you and that you felt your voice wasn't heard. We pride ourselves on our transparency and regularly encourage employees to provide Open & Honest feedback, either directly to their managers or through our semi-annual employee engagement surveys. Unfortunately, it's not possible, however, and nor would it make sense, to always implement every employee's suggestions on every issue. We do listen closely and attempt to address issues, and if we decide not to implement an idea, we share that with the employee or the broader team along with our reasoning.
