Pros

Futures and Options is a well-intentioned organization, but extremely misguided in their messaging and representation (just take a look at the photos/bios of the staff and board of directors on their website).

Cons

Futures and Options has to deal with a massive white savior industrial complex issue (throwing money at things doesn't fix anything). As stated in the pros, the org is well-intentioned, however their definition of "role model" is anachronistic. There was a sheet on how to dress when you show up to an interview that was titled something along the lines of "what to wear as a lady and a gentleman". The strict gender norms and racial norms is holding back the creativity and expression that these kids have and should use. Their frame of how to be a successful adult falls strictly within the outline of Wall Street. If that's you, go for it! But know that you aren't solving any issues, rather putting a band-aid on (and continuing) the blatant sexism, racism, and homophobia that exists in corporate America.

Pros

Executive Director made sure staff was full of energy and completed work with the focus always being on the students. Small office made environment relaxed, and you were able to interpret your work in your own way as long as it was getting done with quality. The best part of the day was working with the students and forming meaningful relationships with them.

Cons

At times work-life balance is off, the official work schedule is 10-6 p.m., but most people end up working beyond that time, especially if you have a workshop several times a week. Even harder, there are days when program staff work until 8:30 p.m. w/o overtime pay. Bonus/increased pay structures are not put in place for staff to earn more after prolonged time with company and small staff gives little ability to advance career wise within organization. Pay is skewed between non-program staff and program staff, with program staff earning a lot less than peers in the office.

Pros

Excellent program staff. Very well-intentioned and engaged individuals.

Cons

Administration was unnecessarily abrasive and lacked diplomacy when dealing with employees from both the admin and program ends of the organization.
