Worst company ever

Pros

Most people clock off at 4pm so you could too

Cons

This has been the worst company I have ever worked for. An extremely old school company with most senior positions having been at GBST for ~10+ years, stuck in the past from their past success and thinking the same ways of working will continue to make them competitive. From an engineering standpoint the tech is very ancient with outdated practices and ways of working. Engineers write no tests due to a combination of strict deadlines, lack of skills, and lack of infrastructure to support quality software. They just get the job done and move on. Anyone is allowed to approve your code plus peers will blindly approve your code knowing you'll help them out with the same in the future. There is no investment and every tool, and every part of the tech stack is hanging by a thread with constant issues. There's also no interest in investment as senior leadership seems to expect they can get everything for free and any steps backwards for future steps forward is not worth doing. Culturally the company is not much better. If you read the company values on the website and inverse them, you have the way the company really treats you. The company has a 3-day work from office policy that the CEO claims "you'll work better" although teams aren't rearranged to be in the same location and the company contracts a large majority of their engineering work force from Vietnam who only come online from 1pm onwards. Senior leadership also doesn't trust its people, so every manager was called into a meeting daily to do a roll call on who's been in and who hasn't, this stopped before the first round of layoffs. In Jan they had a round of layoffs that made no sense in terms of who got cut and in Feb another round as soon as a project finished. The term permanent employee doesn't seem to mean much here. What's worse is they didn't make a public announcement for a while allowing rumours to spread like wildfire.

Redundancies and culture

Pros

Nice office with snacks and drinks

Cons

Management and execs dont know what they are doing. Making bad investment decisions/purchases on a whim which led to 100s of redundancies to keep costs down as they arent making money. Every employee is a number to them and arent treated as people. HR do a good job covering this up by showing their company as being diverse and inclusive.

Pros

People are focused on achieving good outcomes for customers

Cons

It's July in 2020 and they have asked all staff to return to the office 5 days a week. No consideration for staff health concerns over CBD offices and public transport
