Environmental mission undermined by toxic leadership
Pros
GRACE is a small environmental non-profit and has a handful of experts in food and water, along with a subsidiary company (Mondays Campaigns) that works on health awareness marketing, which is good, better than working for some Big Evil Corp. GRACE has some consumer-facing websites about healthy, seasonal food as well as water usage that are unique and useful. It also has a handful of food and water policy experts that are a pleasure to work with. The environment is low-key, and deadlines tend to be permissive. It's well-funded, endowed with 30-40 million $ of the owner's money derived from early investments with Berkshire Hathaway (you can see this on their public financial forms).
Cons
Management is a toxic waste dump. Seems more like a jobs program for the rich owner's friend circle than an actual company. You can go years without hearing directly from the decision-makers. Where are we heading? What are our goals? What's the ultimate focus of this company? No one knows. Legal and HR are no help, routinely treating employees with hostility, as if everybody is a leech who mooches off the company's precious benefits -- except for a couple of their teacher's pets, of course. The Mondays Campaigns is an even bigger disaster. Near-constant turn-over and totally unprofessional managers as evidenced by the many negative reviews here. Career-wise GRACE is a complete dead-end. I've never heard of anyone ever being promoted, so prepare to turn into a potted plant.
