Great People, lousy job

Pros

The people who work here are truly amazing. The CEO and upper-level leaders especially care about you and your goals. The experience and skills acquired are great. You truly will learn how to interview, train, lead, organize, become solution-oriented and hold a no-excuses mentality.

Cons

It is pure commission (although there is a salary option available, no one takes it because you have to hit such a high sales quota that you would be making more on commission if you hit the quota needed for salary). Transportation costs are not reimbursed (except for in your taxes, once a year- hard to budget out) Work-life balance is absurd- you will work upwards of 60 hours a week, and it will always feel that you should be working more (aka working Saturdays, filling out paperwork and 1 on 1s during the evening). A good portion of the day that you are "working" you will not be able to make a dime. These are morning and afternoon "atmospheres" and meetings- about 3 hours a day. Also, the time it takes to get to your territory- anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour each way depending on your territory. For most people, it seemed like about 4 hours of their work day they were not compensated for. There are no paid holidays, sick days, vacation days, etc.

Pros

Just about the only good thing about this company is the fact that they are very friendly to each other. That's it.

Cons

Horrible pay. You work you butt off to make sales and even if you make the most you still get paid squat. If you have a family there is absolutely now way you can survive of you starting pay. You always try to. Make enough sales to get your bonuses but if you don't then you are screwed even more. I only worked with this company for a two week period because I got my dream job later on. I will say this if I would have gotten the pay check I received I would have quit any way. The pay is a joke and I am an expert at sales. I spent more money on my suits than I made there. Plus they preach that you can make so much money if you apply yourself but I am good at details. The senior staff wear virtually the same suits every day and the shoes are so worn down at the soles that the have holes. That doesn't sound like people who make money.

Here at GS6, we believe that hard work pays off, and for our senior staff- even those with families- this is true. For those that consider themselves veteran sales professionals, it is sometimes difficult to transition to a new, and different kind of sales and marketing. We work hard to provide opportunity to all of our employees and will continue to do so.

Pros

Everyday when I come to work at GS6, I'm looking forward to it. Straight out of undergrad, I could not have asked for more. The fast-paced day-to-day keeps me busy, and I actually have the opportunity to learn useful skills for my career. I expected this entry-level position to be like most others where you do the grunt work and wait for an opportunity to present itself, but day one at GS6 I was being utilized and treated as a valuable member of the team.

Cons

I have to admit that I was not expecting to have as much responsibility and input as a young, new employee, but it is truly performance-based. When I out-performed other reps, I was given more responsibility and the opportunity to advance my management knowledge and skills. Conversely, if you don't give 100%, you will not have the same opportunity. Also, don't expect to settle in or stagnate because every day you have the opportunity to get promoted to a new level of leadership and responsibility. This is not the right position for someone who wants to get paid for showing up.
