Pros

Good benefits. The work-life balance was reasonable, and the development environment is pretty relaxed (if you prefer that sort of thing).

Cons

This company will absolutely terminate you 2 days after having your power restored from a major hurricane. Good upper managers get pushed out because of politics and end up being replaced by sycophants who have no idea how to actually manage people.

Thank you for taking the time to recognize our work-life balance that we are proud of and the atmosphere that allows employees to succeed. As a small company we develop our managers through career progression and our internal training programs that develop their management skills. We strive to communicate in a supportive environment, nurture and support our employes growth.

Pros

There are a few employees who genuinely care about helping members, and the credit union does offer occasional community events and volunteer opportunities. The basic benefits package is decent especially 401k match.

Cons

Compensation for frontline roles is far below market, especially considering the level of sales pressure, lending responsibilities, and constant customer support required. Competing credit unions and major banks pay significantly more for identical work. The “people helping people” branding does not reflect the internal reality or the policies employees must follow. Community events and parade appearances feel performative and do nothing to address the issues staff and members face. Branch leadership often behaves unprofessionally, with inconsistent expectations and dismissive communication, leaving little meaningful coaching or support. The attendance policy also allows managers to issue write-ups after only three call-out days within six months, even if one of those absences is just a partial day. This gives managers extensive discretion and creates a system that feels unnecessarily imbalanced. The overall culture, policies, and compensation create an environment where even employees who truly care struggle to succeed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with GTE during your short tenure with us. We conduct regular compensation surveys to ensure we remain competitive with our compensation practices in all of our markets. We pride ourselves on our community involvement and as a Not for Profit, this is reflective in our daily values to the community. Our attendance policy addresses and supports employees to ensure they can achieve a work life balance while addressing those that experience schedule deviations. We pride ourselves on the employee satisfaction surveys which are also reflected in the years of service that our employees give to the GTE Family. That is why GTE has been voted a Best Place to Work in not only local but National surveys.

Thank you for sharing how we respect the work our employees do for GTE without being micromanaged. PTO is approved depending on the needs of the business and to ensure we can support and service our members. Our schedules ensure work life balance and our generous PTO supports this. If all PTO were denied, our Talent Team would be aware of this and would address as appropriate. Should this ever be the case, please see your departments VP for further assistance.
