Nothing is as it seems

Pros

good commute, fair salary, freedom to work independently

Cons

management is so hands off that there is a resentment among the ranks; expected to work like crazy but get no recognition. Things promised in interview (training, culture, support) are woefully absent. Most employees have been here 10+ years, so everyone is very set in their ways. Lots of "playing favorites," many quality ppl passed over for promotions after years and years of being here

Pros

Interesting projects. Plenty of work. 401k match.

Cons

Lack of support from above or below. Not a strong team environment. Poor technical training and lack of staff development. Poor mentoring. A senior management team that is generally not engaged with their staff. Poorly defined expectations - leading to funny reviews that are full of surprises. Staff retention problems leading to few systems/templates/SOPs for even the most routine tasks. Every man and woman for themselves.

Dear former employee, We at GZA were saddened to read your comments. In the few years that you were with GZA, we thought that you performed your role well and we anticipated your career progressing upward. Reading these comments, it appears that you were not happy. Turnover has been very low the past two years and feedback on the Mentoring program suggests that the culture at GZA fosters an open-door policy and encourages junior staff to seek guidance in their career path. We wish you luck in your future career endeavors.

Pros

The salary is competitive to other firms in the area. Benefits are also very good, Work-life balance is ok. It is a male-dominated firm/field, so it is hard to judge the company comparatively. For consulting, in general, travel isn't as lengthy as some other competitive firms (i.e. I go home at the end of 99.9% of my days).

Cons

It is a male-dominated company; common for the field of geo-tech. The company seems to attract the same types of people and can come across as less-than progressive, as sexism/sexist remarks aren't uncommon. It isn't the most woman-friendly/equalizing place.
