Pros

Decent base salary and fuel allowance. At least it seemed that way at first, until I saw how much was being deducted for insurance. It seemed nice, at first, working for a smaller, family-owned company with no shareholders to keep happy.

Cons

Where to begin? Ah, yes - the owner. The owner absolutely micromanages every single detail of the entire company - he'll talk a good game during the hiring process, but once the honeymoon's over, it's over. He monitors how long it takes you to walk to his office when called, how quickly you answer the phone, and even how long you take to go to the bathroom. I'm not kidding. The owner has been there since Day One of the company, back in the 1950's, and is still there. Every day. The medical and dental insurance offered by the company is an absolute joke, and the owner doesn't believe in direct deposit, because it's too "expensive". His marketing and sales ideas are out of date, and the way he treats people reminds me of bosses from decades gone by. I remember him yelling at several employees one day about how much money he, and the company, were losing. The very next day, he pulls up in a brand new Bentley. Again, I'm not kidding. The company as a whole needs a new, fresh facelift and an infusion of new talent. There's a reason why what once was the best pool company in the area is, at best, maybe the third or fourth best pool company in San Antonio. One of the best decisions I've ever made in my life was to leave that company. Off the top of my head, I can count at least 10 employees (in a small company, no less) that have walked off of the job in the last year because they were tired of the owner's antics and treatment. I am absolutely amazed that the owner hasn't been sued by more former employees. Amazed.

Pros

What Gary Pools has going for it, is they have been in business for over 60 years and family owned.

Cons

What Gary Pools is missing is the owner micro-manages every single detail. There is no room to make decision even if they are the best interest of the company. Also, Gary Pools fees like it is stuck in 1974 and has not been open to new advertising or Marketing ideas.

Cons

Owner won't let employees even buy envelope without his approval. Over the to micro Manager.
