Terrible Culture, Leadership and Morals

Pros

Their office is in a nice building....

Cons

I have worked with numerous agencies and clients in this industry and Gatesman, by far, has the worst company culture of any of them. Their leadership knows nothing about their employees, many of them often assign tasks or projects to their manager-level teammates and will turn around and put their name on it and claim it their own work to the president and CEO. The environment is competitive in a very negative way and no one is looked at as a value or even a real person. Be prepared to get laid off with little to no severance. If you work here, you are just a number to them and they have no problem cutting anyone at the drop of a hat. Also, be very cautious when taking your maternity leave. I watched them let 3 women go who were either about to leave on maternity or just after giving birth and essentially left them hanging. The president is the most unapproachable person in the office and both her and the CEO spend zero time getting to know their own employees. The toxic environment can also be felt by clients. If you want to actually build a career, be mentored by people who are real experts and want to help you grow and if you want to be recognized for skills and your work - stay away from Gatesman.

Pros

Very few good folks remain.

Cons

All of these reviews are a scam. There was a plethora of nasty reviews months ago which have since been removed. Gatesman laid off dozens of employees and overworked those who made the mistake of staying. The only people who remain either can’t find a job elsewhere or are senior management who’ve been put on a pedestal.

It was great, until it wasn't

Pros

Some of the smartest, most charismatic individuals in the industry passed through those doors & stuck around long enough to foster potential in up-and-coming talent.

Cons

Leadership. Across all departments Gatesman lacks solid leadership, and their biggest challenges sit at the very top. A number of questionable business decisions led the company to make significant budget cuts that came in the form of layoffs and cutting culture building activities; none of which would have had the impact it did if leadership hadn't decided that having a complete lack of transparency with their employees into the health of the agency was a good idea. Additionally, there's a perception that senior leadership favors certain departments - which is reinforced by the salary gaps between the departments and opportunities for promotions seemingly only presenting themselves in said certain departments. They have a habit of promoting workhorses that have very little mentoring capabilities and thus younger talent is left without guidance or a path to success. Leadership expects their employees to take on tasks well outside their role for no more pay, appreciation or recognition, and have shown vindictiveness when challenged on this approach. The culture at Gatesman has suffered the most, the extent which can be shown through their high turnover of employees and clients in the last year. Their brand new offices sit mostly empty now.
