Pros

Giant Steps is a wonderful environment for students with autism and I enjoyed seeing the kids and teachers every day. Each student is given an individual plan that allows them to succeed at their pace achieving their own goals.

Cons

To use the word 'shady' is an understatement. From what I understand, the President and CEO has 'resigned' recently due using Giant Steps finances as her own personal ATM. To take thousands of dollars for her own personal use is unforgivable! Shame on the board for not asking the right questions, for not paying attention and for allowing this to go on for years!

Pros

A wonderful organization to work for based on the demographic served and some of my coworkers are great.

Cons

Central administration doesn’t have their ducks in a row, Sylvia is ALWAYS asking for money, even from staff this year, we are UNDERPAID for what we do( physical aggression from students, body fluids smeared on us etc ). There is no sense of urgency amongst interpersonal relationships that impact programming. Under qualified individuals in positions of “power”.

Pros

The staff and students are wonderful. They are the reason why most people come to work! It’s a great place to gain experience but once you have that leave!

Cons

The CEO herself is terrible. She has no knowledge on Autism and every time she speaks at a meeting it’s nonsense. You can either be on a great team or a terrible team depending mostly on the facilitator you have. Most therapist are hired straight from college so they don’t have any experience. Turnover rate is high, so most times the students don’t even get the therapy time their parents think they are getting. There’s so many unnecessary positions they made up that the money could go into other important things. The instructional team they made up a few years ago seems pointless. They don’t do much expect be a body when we are super low on staff which is almost always. Field trips were canceled because the organization doesn’t have the funds for them. They are so under budget it’s ridiculous.
