Pros
Could be a great stand alone role if allowed. I’m a people person and enjoyed interacting with their clientele.
Cons
Absolutely no quality of life and zero back up for receptionist. Upon taking the role my contract was sent to me via Docusign and they were so many errors with regards to salary and start date , that should’ve been the tip off of what to expect when fully ensconced in the role. The other tip off should’ve been when I had my phone interview with the CEO she sounded exhausted and as if the role wasn’t something she was particularly interested in talking about over the phone. The role had tremendous pressure on what could have been a really decent job however dealing with the COO and CEO was never enjoyable. The COO also provided “backup” as lunch relief. COO literally trained me in not even half a day and I learned as I went. Normally not a problem however when something went wrong, I was looked at like I should have known. The problem was there was no time to engage with the receptionist to explain everything that needed to be done because of their time constraints from their own jobs. Absolutely insistent a on 30 minute lunch break as they were receptionist relief, in fact the COO and the Vice President were completely miserable in covering the front desk , with the COO staying at her desk many times to continue to do her work, so ideally any receptionist could take longer if necessary. The lunch break AND MANY THINGS were never explained to me prior to taking the role. Both the CEO and the CEO were miserable women who took on too much and who had zero people skills. CEO is a woman who either was let go from previous job or left….. she was such a depressive personality my whole day tanked as soon as she arrived. Complained all day about me and and loudly as well. I understood from the recruiters in the office, who were all very lovely, that they could not retain a receptionist and have gone through many. I was told by the recruiters themselves I was the best they had had in a long time. They truly made me feel appreciated but I was so mistreated by my own department of administration. I was also told the receptionist prior to me just left abruptly and she was planning her wedding and when the COO reached out to her by text to see exactly why she left, the receptionist never responded so I’m assuming she just left abruptly. I now understand why. Could be a fantastic job but they will always continue to have receptionist problems with these women and the way they deal with that spot. Also I’d like to mention the CEO is a woman from prior fantastic companies however is a friend of the chairman and is a manic personality. It trickled down to the three person administrative office. In short, this is a receptionist job, not very hard to do but for whatever reason, it received not an ounce of respect. My best days were when the CEO and the COO were out of the office. Truly a miserable experience but didn’t need to be. I always felt sorry for the vice president who worked with these women. she didn’t seem to be able to speak up nor have a voice. I did notice that she tried to buddy up to the COO and I’ve always thought that she was intimidated by her. I have no idea if they have an office anymore after Covid, assuming they do and hopefully they no longer need a receptionist because I would hate for anyone who takes on that rule to have to go through what I went through.
