Pros

Well-funded start-up (for next four years). Nice offices in good location. Good reputation in industry. Education budget. Flexible working hours and option to work at home.

Cons

Management has little to no experience either working in companies or managing people. They make decisions which do not make sense to employees. They value the opinions of close associates over that of their teams. They do not take responsibility when their mismanagement causes problems. There is very little transparency and a lot of politics. They ask for feedback but don't respond well to it. Honesty is seen as a threat. Expectations are not clear and feedback is not given directly. Obvious favoritism and nepotism. Employees are not respected equally and adequately appreciated. 8-9 employees (out of about 50) were let go or left in 6 months. Products are not clearly viable.

Thanks for your feedback. Gnosis believes that feedback is a powerful tool that enables us to grow and improve as an organization. We've just restructured our teams in order to be able to evaluate their performance and help them to grow. We've also put in place a continuous feedback process that encourages employees to have discussion regarding their project challenges as well as possible team conflicts. In our first year, we grew too fast and therefore lead us to an incompatibility between desired and actual position for a couple of people. We apologize for individuals bad experiences, however made our company stronger. We suggest that you use our means of communication in order to give constructive feedback, like suggestion box or employees surveys. Also, please feel free to drop by the management office or HR office to discuss any matter that you feel uncomfortable with.

Nepotistic, unprofessional, and oppressing work environment

Pros

Well-funded blockchain project (however, no one knows where the funding comes from—Gnosis' ICO (Initial Coin Offering) was one of the first of its kind, and did not enforce KYC (Know Your Customer) measures which will likely result in some sort of prosecution sooner or later). Offices are located in a nicely designed, newly renovated co-working space for blockchain companies, in the heart of Berlin Kreuzberg. Founders are well-known and respected in the ecosystem. Generous education budget; language classes for non-German speakers. Extremely flexible working hours with option to work remotely and from home. Plenty of team events and retreats.

Cons

Nepotistic environment: A significant percentage of the company is related. Family members have been offered positions without any prior relevant (work) experience. Opinions of family members (or close associates) are valued over that of their teams. Generally, performance at work is not an assessment criteria for everyone. What mostly counts is personal preference of the management, and that of their family members and/or close associates. Neither management nor the majority of employees has experience working at a company. Decisions are made mostly by intuition. Neither Management nor team leads have any prior leadership experience. A team lead position is granted to either family members or close associates of the Management. Close associates of the Management tend to be employees who are loyal, who do not question any of the Management's decisions (because they do not know better) and thus do not represent a threat to their authority. Management and HR frequently ask for feedback, however do not act on it, and sometimes use it against those who raise it: Disciplinary procedures are taken against those who tend to speak up against the Management and/or their close associates. There's no company culture or common values—none of the people in leadership positions represent any values that could serve as guidance for a fruitful environment. Employees are neither supported nor challenged.

We appreciate very much that you are sharing your thoughts with us! Gnosis finds that only through feedback and suggestions can we create a great work environment. To keep improving employees experience, we are always willing to listen to new ideas and feedback through providing many communication tools, such as a suggestion box, employee happiness survey, management office hours (dedicated exclusively to talk to employees and/or teams), AMA meetings (when employees can ask management anything), biweekly team check-in meetings, weekly standups, among others. The HR office is always open to employees to discuss concerns in confidence. We grew too fast in the beginning and we were inexperienced at building teams, resulting in discrepancies between desired and actual position for a small number of people. A more strict recruiting process has been put in place to make sure we are hiring the candidates that most fit our team and culture, but couldn’t reconcile everyone into the restructured teams. We are very sorry for your individual bad experience, but at the same time we are confident that this brought the team and company to a stronger position. We definitely don't make any distinctions between employees and a performance review and feedback rounds are being implemented to guarantee equality. Gnosis also provides a training budget to all employees to support their improvement and career development.

We appreciate your feedback and are very sorry you did not have a good experience working at Gnosis. At Gnosis, all new joiners go through an extensive and structured onboarding experience prepared in advance by HR and the team they are joining. That includes talks covering company culture, processes, and policies, meetings with the team and team lead, and meetings with C-level/management. On the benefits side of things, everything described on our website is what we live daily. Gnosis does offer flexible work hours, the possibility to work remotely, flexible vacation days, a training budget, and a conference budget, among other things. We continuously work on providing our employees with a great atmosphere and work environment, as their well-being and satisfaction at work are extremely important to us.
