Pros

Goecart owner's (a/k/a CEO's) wife was nice to work with. She was always smiling and happy and went out of her way to be nice to people.

Cons

Where to start a Goecart review. First, the Goecart company is also known as Machrotech. I've worked for several high tech companies but thought Goecart's environment was terrible. Staff fit into basically one room with a mini fridge, microwave, and keurig. If you like to smell everyone's lunch then this is the place for you. The smell seemed to stay in the air for hours. Work day was 8:30am to 6pm with a half hour for lunch. People were expected to work late just because. So unless you are going to bring your family to work with you (to work for free), don't expect to see a lot of them on weekdays. I felt very micro managed. I've never worked for any company that had people wait until one year of service before they could qualify for a sick or PTO day, or a year to qualify for health insurance. There was no 401K. Sorry I can't describe more. They made me sign a lot of papers if you know what I mean. It seemed Goecart workers that weren't a founder or part of the family all had low self esteem. I was aware most people were looking for a new job. The company boasts of being started in a dorm room, In my opinion the senior managers/founders have no more than dorm room management acumen. Customer relationships with staff always seemed adversarial. This company refers to itself as an exciting start up but has been around a pretty long time. I would like to leave a better review of Goecart but can't. Hey, you never know, the company may have changed since I was very recently there. But you know what they say about a leopard and its spots. if you're considering going to work for Goecart then do your research. Tell them you saw this and ask them what they have done to improve. Maybe look for other Goecart reviews and explore further. Good luck!

GoECart Response

GoECart welcomes opinions of our company however this “former employee” does not have their facts straight by a long shot. We’d like to respond to these points one by one in order to be as transparent (which is also one of our core values) as possible with future candidates. • There are no micro managers here. We encourage our employees to lead and work as independently as possible. We have a flat hierarchy with zero office politics. • Our business hours are 8:30 to 6:00 with a 1 hour lunch and breaks. • You get paid holidays from day one. Paid time off is accrued with each month you work here. You can take paid time off any time after six months of employment. Most companies operate the same way. • Full health benefits and 401K through John Hancock are available within 60 to 90 days of employment. • Our customers are what drive us. In fact, we have great relationships with all our clients. We have a spectacular record of client success and retention. We won the 2013 Best Customer Service Stevie Award on that very basis. • We have more than doubled our office space and moved into a beautiful brand new suite in a class A building downtown. While we offer world class amenities and awesome perks (like free lunch, stocked fridge, massages, movies, etc.) to our employees, what we offer more than anything else is meaningful and challenging work in a highly dynamic environment where each person gets to make a difference each day and can even impact the larger ecommerce industry in general through the collective clients and end consumers we serve. We believe that together we can indeed put a ding in the universe! So as you can see these are the real facts about working at GoECart. If you want to learn at a 2X-3X pace and love working with awesome colleagues in a super exciting industry like Ecommerce and Digital Marketing, GoECart is the place to do just that. Come join us! Applicants welcome!!

Pros

The best thing about working at GoECart is being awarded the opportunity to accelerate your career aggressively alongside a team of committed individuals that are more than just colleagues. Personally I am always pushing myself and never satisfied with settling which was beneficial during my time with GoECart. In less than 2 years I was able to learn a considerable amount about the industry, associated technology and business processes. I am a better person and professional for my time with the firm. Some people like to coast casually throughout their career and to those people, this is not the job for you. If you are driven and look forward to a challenge, GoECart will deliver.

Cons

I think that as a small growing company competing with bigger fish, it can be stressful. So much to do in little time but in the end, the blood and sweat yields reward. As more business processes are implemented and team efforts are streamlined, the small company challenges will subside. Typical growing pain I have seen in the past.

Pros

I worked for GoECart for two years. Although I was a subcontractor I often wished I was an employee! No company is perfect and every benefit package can't meet every employee's needs. Having been in the workforce longer than anyone currently at GoECart including the CEO (yes I am older) I will tell you there are a lot of bad companies out there and GoECart is not one. Having been through a lot of management styles I will say that I respect and appreciate the one this CEO has. Granted he has a high expectation of his staff but what is wrong with pushing employees to do their best? What impressed me the most was the consideration for the employees, A few months after I started working there the whole company with their families including children were taken for an all expenses paid three day weekend for meeting their goals. This is unheard of in this day and age. Even back in a better economy when I worked for much larger companies this would never be offered. There is a summer and winter party as well as other "thank you" for a job well done. And here family comes first! I know companies who wont even allow spouses to attend a holiday party because of cost. And when I personally had a family crisis the empathy and consideration I was given blew me away. Any employment relationship takes the work of two. I moved on only because I was presented with a job in an industry that I love, not because of an management issue.

Cons

The only con was the longer work day. However people do not realize that the breaks that they take to smoke or walk outside is not owed them at least not by CT labor laws. A once a week meeting when you are on the clock and getting a free lunch is not unreasonable. My advise to someone reading these reviews to consider employment is to use them for better questions in an interview process. People take whatever is offered in the interview because they need the job and then complain about it later. It is not the perspective employer's fault you didn't ask the right questions. Make sure the hours, the benefits and the expectation is what you need for your personal life before you accept the offer. Remember an ex employee is an ex for a reason. Don't assume an ex employee did everything asked of them or that they even left employment in a professional matter. A high turn over can sometimes be nothing more than the inability to read an applicant. So make yourself clear in your needs. Remember you are interview ing your potential new employer as well.
