Best Place I've Worked

Pros

I've worked at a lot of big companies and this place is just different, in a good way. Some pros: *Accessible & available top leaders *Company cares about its employees & employees about each other *Great benefits and working environment *Lots of educational and developmental opportunity *8-4:30 Schedule, rare to work more than 40 hours Lots of others, just a great place to work and continually looking for ways to treat employees and community better. Great culture, Very rewarding career.

Cons

Most cons are inconsequential, but they do exist: *Lots of horizontal opportunities, not so much vertical * Bonus structure doesn't incentivize individuals beyond overall company performance. * Not very transparent on salary. *Outdated technology and siloed departments. * Lots of underperforming "lifers" that are along for the ride. *Very conservative mindset/very risk averse - almost too much so

Field adjuster

Pros

Most management style is non micro, however there are one or two. Work with great mutual people Vacation requests always approved

Cons

The company is growing but not efficiently staffing for this growth. Expecting your adjusters to drive 4 hours one way for a claim is outlandish. No consideration for work life. VP listened to complaints about it and told all adjusters to basically suck it up. No monetary consideration when pulled to work other areas when a catastrophic event occurs. There is no official Catastrophe team so when one area in the country gets hit, everyone is pulled from their area to work in other states. Again no consideration for people with families and how they will be able to get their families to school/daycare, etc. Not everyone has a grandparent or guardian to help out. Nepotism runs rapid at this place. No postings for positions - just an email saying that someone has been promoted. It's who you know and not about how hard someone has worked for these promotions. So little opportunity for advancement unless you are in with the good ole boys.

Going downhill fast

Pros

People are nice. They are good about providing education. They have great frills for benefits, but the basics that provide financial security are missing and many of us are spending too many hours at our desks to utilize the frills like free health classes.

Cons

They expect the nice people and the frills like a health center, free ice cream, to make up for low pay, pay and promotions are based on who likes you, not your work performance (an excellent review will get you kind words but not much of a pay differential.) No link between performance and education and pay and promotion opportunity.
