Not a pleasant place to work

Pros

The Habito name is very visible and has a good reputation in the fintech world. Along with Trussle, they make up the two leading digital mortgage firms. Senior management and board believe in and are invested in the technology part of the business.

Cons

The atmosphere in the office is very political all of the time which can be tiring unless you are used to working in that kind of environment. I found it hard to identify clear lines of responsibility or accountability which led to constant friction. Unclear and volatile resource allocation or ticket priority logic which often appeared to be based on the short term whims and fancies of senior management. The culture is such that new hires aren't afforded the time to settle in and prove their worth. In addition, there are some very common tech startup traits like confusing technical skills for management potential, reluctance to accept mistakes made in the founding years, lack of subject and customer knowledge, and an unhealthy bias towards over-hiring. In short, it isn't a very pleasant place to work if you are not part of the founder's inner circle.

Needs a lot of work

Pros

Reputation, space it’s in, financial backing, rapid growth.

Cons

I will echo some of the other reviews on here. Immature management is all pervasive. The existing culture is to place blame and avoid taking responsibility. The arbitrary management style of the founder is a perfect case study in why startup founders often make poor chief execs. I don’t see the big deal around the benefits offered, pretty standard for the fintech sector.

Here goes nothing

Pros

If you joined early enough and/or are friends with the right people, Habito is the place to be. You get shares so if you hang on long enough and the company does well, you could strike it lucky! Don’t be alarmed by the glassdoor rating. As Ryanair, Sportsdirect and Amazon show, you don’t need happy employees to be wildly successful as a business.

Cons

We have been told that we aren’t active enough on Glassdoor, so here goes nothing. Management that I see do not practise what they preach be it work practices, customer focus, project timelines or common sense frugality. If you are in a team that has a tangible output, expect to be held to much stricter standards than if you were not. I want to make it clear that this is my personal view and a colleague’s experience could be different depending on when he or she joined and what team they work in.
