Pros

I have been an employee of Halcyon Financial Technology for 4.5 years. My favorite part of this job is the team. We are a team of senior technologists that work closely with each other and collaborate to get the job done with quality and efficiency for our clients. We don't work in a tiered hierarchy, and our titles do not define us. Senior information services advisors work alongside the managers and directors to collaborate, troubleshoot and resolve everyday IT issues. Another thing I appreciate about this company is the ability to grow. For instance, myself and the other directors started out as an Information services advisor. Management is always looking to develop our employees into the leaders of tomorrow. The base salary at Halcyon is traditionally higher than most MSP's and the bonuses, benefits, PTO, and retirement are second to none.

Cons

While no job is perfect, working at HalcyonFT can be stressful. However, I have never seen a management team that cares more for its employees. Management constantly strives to keep employees engaged and happy. We are always cognizant of our employee's bandwidth and step in if the workload or stress level gets too high.

Pros

Great co-workers Really helpful team that's willing to go above an beyond to help and teach others. Not a toxic work culture that's fun to be at for the most part Very high pace environment where you can learn A LOT if you pay attention. This isn't really positive or negative, but key information. Everyone joins at the same level of employment which keeps things flexible, but having any type of upward movement in your career is nigh impossible unless you want to be a manager (see "Cons" section).

Cons

I'm not sure where the other reviews for 5+ year tech reviews are coming from, but there aren't any employees who aren't a part of upper management that have been here for over 5 years that I've ever heard of or since I've worked here. Long hours; an average week is 75+ hours if you want to perform at upper bonus level. The average turnover is about 1 year. I've seen almost 15 techs come and go since I've been here. All of them are within 2 months of a year. (+/-) "Opportunities"/promotions aren't performance based. They are instead given out to people who have "free time". Chances to take additional classes or learn new skills/get certifications are given to team members who perform worse since they need more help. If you perform above average, the opportunity to get certified is basically non-existent. I reported to 4 different managers since I've been here. Almost all quit within a year or so. They don't promote or hire managers based on performance. If you've had a manager title or above in your career and ask for a management position, they promote you. I can promise you that about half of my managers weren't qualified to be managers. Upper management is very gung-ho about getting new clients ($_$), but internal improvements are often ignored (continuous training, updating documentation, improving or fixing broken processes, etc.)

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We are happy to hear about your great coworkers, helpful team environment, and fun and positive work culture. At HalcyonFT, we take culture, engagement, and the employee experience very seriously. In the first half of 2022 we experienced a growth in headcount of over 25%, and we incorporated many new processes and actions items to help support our team and its growth. Over the last year we strategically focused on our people and operations to create a more sustainable work life balance for our team, and placed emphasis on career growth and progression by way of certifications, continuing education, and internal promotions. Both Management and People Operations promote an open-door culture and solicit feedback on a regular basis. Thank you so much again for your thoughtful review. Thank You, HalcyonFT People Operations

Pros

HalcyonFT has a unique position in tech given its specialized strategy and industry vertical. Additionally, the internal team members that you collaborate with are great; professional, respectful, diverse. Technically employees are very hands-on with the latest cloud platforms and integrations. There’s an abundance of opportunity to be involved at all levels, from internal systems to technical support and project implementations. HalcyonFT has found the balance between standardization and innovation from a technical perspective. The tech is never boring, we use the best modern systems and continuously look for improvement. Also, employees have the opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in finance at a very professional and direct level. There is a sense of pride and ownership as the primary technical advisor to financial services clients.

Cons

Given the high caliber of clients we engage with, it can be demanding. It’s very fast paced and lively – you will not be bored. Thankfully you have opportunity to defer to the team for help, so you won’t ever feel like you’re on in island.
