Leadership is often the best available within the company. Not necessarily the best. There are not many true senior level staff to mentor mid-level staff. Many mid-level staff are de facto senior staff, when they could use more experience and perspective. Senior management often feels like a fraternity. This normalizes similar behavior in staff and creates an atmosphere that is not great for people that are not likeminded. Some things should not be said or shared at work.

The senior Management team is still the same from the past and talks about changing the culture, but you have a hard time believing them when you hear them talk when they think no one else is listening. COO is someone that has his favorites and they are treated as such if he doesn't like you you know it and when he has an option about you it never changes. If you can stay on his good side you are all set, if not he makes your work life hell.
