I have been working at Halfords part-time

    Pros

If you're lucky and have nice colleagues, the atmosphere can be quite enjoyable sometimes. Good for students and temps.

    Cons

Halfords as a company will give you as little as possible in terms of number of hours and pay, but will overwork you as much as they can. Always low on staff. They will offer you a 15 hrs contract and ask you to work 3 hrs/day, 5 days/week. Limited chance to progress.

    Pros

In house training, great benefits at companies within Halfords and outside

I have been working at Halfords full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good team atmosphere with a very hands on approach. You spend most of your day ineracting with customers, answering questions, and out in the car park working on cars for the various fits on offer. Progression is good and with the right attitude you can advance to a more technical role (such as audio or cycle technician) or head to duty manager and then on to assistant and eventually store manager. You are expected to be multi-skilled and so will spend shifts putting out stock, booking in orders, helping customers, working the till, and working on their cars. It can be pretty fast-paced at times but it really helps the day fly by. Plenty of training is on offer in order to help colleagues have the specialist knowledge necessary to answwer most customer questions. 25% colleague discount in store and various discounts in the autocentres including 50% off MOTs and 25% off tyres.

    Cons

Overall working experience is largely dependant on the team dynamic each store has, so someone could enjoy working at one store but not one down the road. Customers quite often need their hands holding through every step in the buying process which can be annoying at times if you have other tasks to do, however these are service roles and should be expected. Wages are not competitive considering the skill base needed for some of the services on offer such as chip repair and dash cam hardwiring. Doubly so for the audio and cycle technicians. The only day the store is closed is Christmas day and most bank holidays the stores are open until 6 instead of hte more usual 4 or 5. No overtime is paid for bank holidays or Sundays, although your holiday allowance is compensated for the bank holidays you work. As with most retail jobs, wages could be higher, we could do with more staff and more time off, and sometimes the higher management seem out of touch with what is happening within the stores. But that's the nature of the beast.

I worked at Halfords part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fixing bikes and making customers smile. Some autonomy with handling workload for repairs.

    Cons

Heavily target-driven. Some customers expected you to perform miracles with your spanners at minimum cost.
