Pros
It’s just you and your partner for the most part. As long as you have a good one, you’re set. My old partner became family. Half of the employees are pretty decent people. The job itself is rewarding in its own way. This is a job that when asked “what do you do for a living?” Or “where do you work?” You can say it with your head held high. Once you work in EMS, it seems like no other will give you “job satisfaction”. Amazing opportunity to get into the paramedic program (if you are willing to brown nose your way in).
Cons
Crappy Management. Crappy coworkers. Crappy partners. THE PAY! The constant calls with no breaks. The supervisors who sleep around play favorites. Most of the women emts are badge bunnies and very vain. The men are pretty much all horn dogs. Don’t even mention wanting to be a firefighter or police officer. They will toss you out faster than they dispatch a call. The place was a lot better before Harvey passed away. Now it’s a circus. “Overworked, Underpaid and unappreciated” should be their slogan. Apply to be an ER Tech. You'll get better pay and access to restrooms. Some of these paramedics are a joke. I will literally turn them away and wait for a different crew to show up if I was in need of an ambulance. Wouldn’t trust them with my fish.
