Pros

It's a global company (although there is no exposure to other offices) Wide variety of product Does some interesting research

Cons

Significantly underpaid degree qualified staff Lack of strong management Lack of understanding of financial implications / cost of jobs No efforts to train staff or get them involved in development activities Very American style of management - do as I say and don't ask questions

Bad Leadership, Bad Everything

Pros

Many of the people on my team were amazing. There were some really fun, competent, and hard-working individuals in the Recruiting department. Unfortunately, leadership is really bad so no matter how talented the team was, it was nearly impossible to grow under such inadequate leaders. Most of the great people have unfortunately left at this point.

Cons

The pay is not great and unless you are one of the favored few, it's extremely difficult to see any sort of growth - both in position and pay. The main con in the Recruiting department is truly the leaders in place, starting all the way at the top. The VP of HR in general lacks compassion, understanding, and common decency. Other supervisors and managers in Recruiting are essentially just bad leaders. They are people that no one wants to follow. They don't instill trust and autonomy in their employees, they micromanage (one even had her whole team track every minute of the work they were doing on a joint spreadsheet for two weeks straight), they don't know how to help their employees grow and develop, and they refuse to recognize that any ongoing issues in the department may be their fault.
