Toxic Environment

Pros

They give employees free soda and candy.

Cons

Toxic accounting management. Managers are quick to anger, offer criticism instead of feedback, there is lack of trust between employees and management, with managers likely to blame employees for their mistakes. There is an excessive workload and unrealistic expectations. Unfortunately, new employees in the accounting department typically last only 3-6 months, so the workload is always high. Managers in accounting and HR tend toward bullying, I’ve seen them actually lie to cover their own mistakes. Training is nonexistent, it’s more of a sink or swim, and there is no patience from managers for the learning curve. Everything is micromanaged and there is no trust in employees. In conclusion, bullying and toxic accounting and HR managers, high stress, low morale.

Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn new things. There is also the potential for growth since the accounting department manager should be retiring within the year.

Cons

The training is poor and there is little support while you’re in those difficult stages of being new. Sometimes it feels like you were set up to fail. The culture is also toxic. You will receive an unwarranted bad attitude from leadership and you will be belittled.
