It’s not what it used to be

Pros

Many employees are at Bluebook because they believe in the mission. People are generally nice and most of the time it’s pretty laid back. It’s a private company and it used to be a very safe space to express ideas, concerns, counter arguments, and most of all, we had fun. There’s a lot of food and a lot of company activities. Work/life balance is good and there are options to work remotely.

Cons

Over the last year they’ve let a lot of the founding leadership go in favor of young MBAs with a ‘greed is good’ mentality. It’s become a place of silos, micro managing, CYA files, and ‘yes’ men. During your interview they’ll sell you on culture and how great it is. They will show you the puzzles, the foosball table, and the recognition wall (they make us write those.) They’ve lost site of the initial purpose of the company and the new leadership is taking the company in a much more corporate direction. During the interview process, you’ll realize that you can make $10-25k more somewhere else but they will sell you on the culture. For those looking for a change from the typical corporate world, this is not it.

Pros

1) Unlimited PTO which is encouraged by management to take. Maintaining mental health and a good work/life balance are emphasized by leadership across the board. 2) Working with purpose. Whole company is working towards a rewarding and noble goal. 3) Transparency. Regular meetings and company-wide check-ins where everyone is able to see the full scope of everyones hard work. 4) Management is supportive. Company goals aren't managements only concern, they genuinely care about employee professional growth and learning (read:mentorship!)

Cons

1) Full time Nashville-based WFH doesn't seem like it will be offered long term. Which doesn't really make sense because part of the company works remotely. 2) Engineering seems to be a bit of a boys club here. Some women, but few and far between. 3) Very outdated & bias-designed tech. - the technology they create only offers binary gender options, as well as seemingly deliberate in excluding lgbtqia+ procedures from their app. 4) There's a lack of diversity in upper leadership. Which may explain #3.
