There were unrealistic expectations of my capabilities as a junior developer, despite my degree of experience having been clearly communicated before I was hired. It wasn't until after my start date that I was informed that the senior developer on staff had very limited availability and only worked part-time. I was frequently assigned tasks that required direction or approval from the senior developer, who was often inundated with tasks of greater importance, leaving me blocked from making any progress visible to the rest of the team. The tasks I did manage to complete often sat for days awaiting the senior's approval. The constant roadblocks caused me to jump between tasks, trying to find anything I could make progress on while the senior was unavailable. I quickly became subjected to increasingly uncomfortable conversations with management where I was questioned about whether I was even capable of doing my job. I started getting asked regularly about periods of inactivity, letting me know that my screen was being remotely monitored. The repeated check-ins became borderline hostile, eventually pushing me to quit on the spot one morning. I was finally told during the exit interview that they had been having a difficult time retaining developers, and that I was just the most recent of several to quit. I can unfortunately say that this was the most unpleasant job I've had.

They expected too much from a Jr there was no documentation and the code base was spaghetti and disorganized. Overwhelming.
