I joined Helen Adams Realty with high hopes, drawn in by the friendly facade that greeted me initially. However, my experience at this company quickly turned sour, and I am compelled to share my honest feedback.
From the beginning, the lack of diversity within the organization was evident. This issue, coupled with constant pressure, transformed the workplace into an uncomfortable environment.
The workload was unreasonably high, and the marketing department in particular is understaffed. The expansion of services and workload did not correspond with an increase in the number of workers, leading to overworked and underpaid employees. I found myself in a situation where my title and compensation remained unchanged, despite taking on the responsibilities of a departed colleague which doubled my workload. The lack of recognition for the additional workload was disheartening, and management's solution was simply to ask for more, without acknowledgment of the effort and overtime already invested.
An additional challenge that contributed to my experience was being tasked with responsibilities that I felt were beyond the scope of the marketing department. This not only increased stress but also had a detrimental effect on the team's efficiency and effectiveness.
Micromanagement was rampant, and the constant feeling of being under scrutiny made the work environment uncomfortable and toxic. Expressing oneself became a challenge, and the absence of an HR department meant there was no avenue to address these concerns.
My termination came right before the holidays, leaving me in a precarious financial position. The way I was terminated was unsettling and unprofessional. My replacement was hired while I was still working, and management framed it as additional support for the team, making it seem as if the changes I had suggested were being implemented when, in fact, they were openly preparing for my termination. My intuition strongly suggested this all was taking place, so the weeks leading up to my departure were filled with intense anxiety and stress. While I am extremely grateful to no longer be associated with Helen Adams Realty, the overall experience has significantly impacted both my professional and personal life.
I would strongly advise potential employees to carefully consider the toxic work culture, lack of diversity, and absence of proper support systems before joining Helen Adams Realty. It is crucial for a company to value its employees, provide fair compensation, and cultivate a positive and inclusive work environment, aspects sorely lacking in my time with this organization.
