Pros

Beautiful campus; Lots of perks including free gifts such as iPads, Go-Pro cameras, bonus checks, and free steak dinners; fantastic colleagues at the departmental level; health care, vision, dental and other benefits; generous match on retirement plan; professional development funds available

Cons

Micromanaging deans; unreasonable expectation to pass students who are unable to master course materials; contractual obligation to be on campus 5 days a week; administration values teaching and university service over research and other scholarly activities; criticism of the school, administration or any other aspect of the institution is seen as "insubordination" and individuals who express opinions contrary to the administration will experience reprisals; faculty are expected to follow "customer service" model, attend admissions open houses and are required to be on campus for Saturday scholarship interviews; Faculty pressured to help move freshmen into dorms; FERPA forms allow parents to call faculty whenever they feel like it (I felt more like an elementary school teacher than a professor); President promises parents "we will take care of your children"; salary is below national and state averages across the board; pressure from administration to live in the city of High Point; pressure to contribute to United Way; focus is on retention rather than education.

Pros

food, apartment and great ra's

Cons

For the love of God, do NOT be an RD here. They will trick you during the interview process into thinking you have a normal RD job. Most of your job falls under "other duties as assigned" Turnover in this job is tremendous and they have no plan on fixing it. Being on call is an absolute nightmare, this school hand holds X1000. A kid get his glasses stolen at 3AM? You get up and personally check on him. A student trips on the sidewalk and needs a bandaid at midnight? You better get up and check on them within 10 minutes or else you'll be written up. A parent wants you to wake his kid up for a test at 8AM? (btw there is 0 student accountability) Go do it and don't ask any questions. You are a PROFESSIONAL babysitter. Management likes to say that you are part of a team, but if it's a team....you will be the underappreciated, abused water boy and they will be the football players. Management is also completely unqualified (i'm talking like a DIRECTOR of an office with a BACHELOR'S degree). As far as the university as a whole goes, this is the one memory I have that accurately sums up this place. During an all staff meeting, the President of the University begins talking about someone who has worked at the university for 30 years and is leaving this year. The President then begins to talk about how the staff member commented about how he wished he had been given a higher pay raise over his time here. The President then goes on to talk trash about this staff member IN FRONT OF ABOUT 400 PEOPLE, saying things like "Yeah, can't wait for him to leave, good riddance you miserable person! Ruin someone else's organization!" TACKY. This is what the President of the University said about someone who worked here for THIRTY YEARS. You will be treated like pond scum. This is a "drink the Kool-Aid or leave" type of place. Do not do this job under ANY circumstances.
