Pros

I made some of my best friends, got to live in california and pushed myself to be a better educator and environmentalist.

Cons

So many. To start off, during the first 2 weeks of training we were told that they had lost their second site and that 30-40% of us were going to be let go if they didn’t find a second site. That should have been a red flag. They did find a second site but then came the never ending overtime shifts, doubles, getting called in when you’re not on call and people just quitting left and right because of management. Some people were working monday at 8am to friday at 5:30 pm with only a 30 minute break each day during some weeks. They don’t count sleeping in cabins as “being on the clock” so you don’t get paid for those hours even though you could easily get woken up by children in your cabin. Management would pick favorites, be mean girls, and overall just not nice to work with and I dreaded any conversation with them. They also have some pretty shady legal stuff going on currently. They treat you like children and make sure that everything is done their way and GOD FORBID you give a suggestion or ask why it’s done a certain way. Also, don’t bother asking for a reference after you leave because they won’t respond. Even after all of this, I am still thankful for the friendships made and experience gained through working this hell of a job.

Pros

Awesome to work with kids in such a fun environment! I loved all of the skills I learned, and really benefited from the training (though extremely long and taxing).

Cons

The work was never done. The people who work there like things done an extremely specific way, and do not like it when things are done differently. While I worked there, many people quit the job which puts a lot of pressure on the people who are still committed to the job. This means you are put on double shifts, and have to cover while there is already limited staff. The season is long, so burnout is honestly bound to happen.
