Don't smile because it's over, cry because it happened

Pros

Full telework provided me plenty of time to apply for other jobs.

Cons

Hilb acquired my previous employer in January 2023. We were pumped full of promises and corporate jargon, but what we ultimately received was an unbelievably frustrating and obfuscated transition of power. Butter wouldn't melt in leadership's mouth. Hilb management told us our responsibilities would remain the same as they were at our old company, but promptly shifted my team's scope and loaded us up with more work than we could handle. When pressed on the issue, leadership would smile and nod and make convincing, but empty promises to us that these issues were just temporary. Unsurprisingly, the issues persisted, which is why my employment did not — I began looking at job listings within two months of the acquisition. On top of that whole mess, the acquisition triggered a shameful arms race of leaders at my old company trying to claw their way into cushy corporate positions at Hilb. It was shameful, really: throwing each other (and us!) under the bus when it benefited them, creating and dissolving strategic alliances, and straight up lying to their subordinates. Reminder, this is a review about an *office job,* not a military coup. They saw dollar signs, I saw the door. Looking forward to this review getting buried under a bunch of fake five star “Cool first job!” and “Great work culture!” reviews. That being said, as with anything that you read on the internet you should take my opinion with a grain of salt and come to your own conclusions. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, though.

Pros

Remote work (in the beginning).

Cons

Remote work is being taken away and we are being asked to return to office on a hybrid 3 days in office. When our company was acquired by HILB, we were promised no changes, business as usual. Since the buy out, ten account managers have quit due to all the changes. Hiring process is daunting… and managers are always missing and so out of touch with the employees’ suffering. We were always promised bigger and better things, only to be constantly let down. Employee turnover is alarming and management blames the employment market but it’s management themselves that are causing people to leave. Benefits are outrageously expensive. Everything is so negative. The only time you hear from management is when they let you down and/or tell you of something you didn’t do correctly… and the only time they hear from you after months of begging to speak with them is when you send them your resignation notice. Spare yourself the negative culture. Your mental health will thank you.

Pros

Only have to report to office 1 day a week. Based on years of service I gained a weeks vacation.

Cons

Typical corporate america. When small agency was acquired we were told "nothing is going to change". they closed our office and moved it with a handful of other offices. salary is low and benefits are expensive. lucky to get a 1% raise. when hilb took over some coworkers were making less money as health insurance skyrocketed. everyone must use same platforms . There are no corporate trainers and personnel doing training s do not know how to have a training session. local corporate structure is a mystery and not explained. corporate brags about monetary goals and all we got was a baseball cap with a typo that was reprinted. They are an acquisition company. show us the money. The ones who help make the money. Producer commissions being rewritten and not retaining as much commission as they used too. Brokers and producers do not under how much is expected of us by corporate. A rep from a carrier I work with warned me of what the future held as they had seen this before with other agencies. i left corporate america for a reason. no room for advancement. promised flex time corporate does not understand the definition of flex time. work life balance? what is that?
