Pros

Whit (CEO) the owner is a fairly nice guy but he doesn't actually run the day to day, his wife Sara (COO) does. I worked with some really great technical people-Matt, Michael and Andrew. Very smart/talented techs.

Cons

I felt like was I was in a non stop domestic drama between Whit(CEO) and Sara(COO) (his wife). They have very different ideas of how the business should be ran. His style is give the house away (not necessarily in a bad way; he wants to throw some free cabling to an unhappy customer ) she wants payment on that free cable her husband promised and you end up in the middle. Hint-they're husband/wife=you lose. Couple of note points in case you are evaluating- 4 of 25 staff on the website haven't been here since my departure in mid October. All are pictures are still on there. Please remove mine as I haven't been there for 6 weeks, others longer. Don't misrepresent your staff. All prior people left in the months before me. The turnover is insane. As of 12/22/21, the pictures of old staff have been removed and future turnover candidates have been added. Note to Whit and Sara-you wouldn't have C-level positions you blather on about if you worked anywhere else. Work here if deperate.

Hill Country Tech Guys Response

I (Sara) want to thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback. A main takeaway for me is that you did not feel open or able to give us this feedback while working with us. I am not perfect, and our team is not perfect, therefore we rely on feedback to help us when we are missing the mark. So, thank you for sharing your perspective on our company. We are making efforts to see how we can better open the lines of communication. We are fully dedicate to hiring a diverse workforce and will continue to be committed to these efforts.

Pros

It has been a privilege to work at Hill Country Tech Guys. For me, it feels like working with friends and family. Yes the workload can be heavy at times, however I’ve always felt appreciated by my coworkers and management for the hard work. Leadership, all the way up to the CEO care about the employees and consistently discuss employee happiness and they consistently try to make everyone happy. Obviously you can’t make everyone happy, but I can say that leadership does care and does try. I remember a new employee was mentioning that they weren’t sure that their car would start and the CEO overheard and offered to let them use a vehicle so that they wouldn’t be trapped. Another time, an employee came down with COVID and they had to move that weekend and the CEO offered to pay for movers out of his own pocket to help the employee out. There’s also free drinks and snacks in the office which is really nice. Leaving Hill Country Tech Guys was sad and I’ll miss them everyone there a lot!

Cons

The workload can be heavy, but you’re appreciated for your work and management acknowledges your work.

Pros

A great work culture that promotes teamwork, work-life balance, professional growth and development, a fun and welcoming work environment, free snacks, frequent feedback, rewards and recognition, diversity & inclusion, integrity, fairness, accountability, quality, etc. This is an outstanding company I feel fortunate to have worked for! I worked for a much smaller MSP before joining this amazing team and was consistently awestruck as I worked alongside some of the most talented, professional, caring, knowledgeable, and easy-going people. If you are willing to learn, have a positive attitude, work well with others, communicate effectively, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have a passion for technology and learning, and want to work for a company where you feel appreciated and valued, then Hill Country Tech Guys is the ideal workplace for you. Management genuinely cares about their employees and does everything possible to ensure their staff has the tools, feedback, and motivation they need to be successful in their roles, as well as prepare for advancement into different/future roles within their company when the opportunity presents itself. With this company being a premium MSP, you can expect to work in a fast-paced environment with plenty of learning opportunities as you work with your team in supporting multiple clients utilizing various technologies. While this can be very exciting at times, engineers may have very little time to devise the best plan of action in order to quickly adjust to such a dynamic and broad range of concerns and challenges. This requires the ability to quickly think on your feet and apply problem-solving skills amid working through stressful situations and occasional long hours. Of course, this is not always the case and there are always measures taken to ensure that team members have support and are taken care of when/if they face such situations. As an African American who worked here, I have NEVER been treated unfairly by anyone in management or any other team for that matter. From day one, I felt valued and never remotely felt discriminated. This company does not care if you are purple, blue, green, or all of the colors of the rainbow—you will be treated with dignity and respect. Trust me! I know they promote diversity and inclusion—I also was not the only person of color there. I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone at Hill Country Tech Guys would mistreat anyone because of the color of their skin. No one can convince me otherwise, as I have seen firsthand how kind, professional, and caring their management and staff is. Finally, I want to highlight the fact that Sara, the COO, is by far one of the most intelligent, phenomenal, and compassionate people I have ever met. Each interaction with her has been a pleasant and productive one. I feel blessed to have met her. Thank you for affording me the opportunity to work for your prestigious company!

Cons

- can be high-stress at times (typical for any MSP) and most IT jobs
