Pros

When I first started I would have given Hilmot 5 stars. The executive managers were making good business decisions. The people there are great to work with and very inclusive. Hilmot has a employee base that is very diverse and inclusive. There were a lot of people who had been with the company for 5 plus years. Employees were happy to share their knowledge and experience. There are still a few left who will. Hilmot is still a good place to acquire new skills and stretch your professional knowledge, if you are a good self learner and can handle the current environment. Wages are average, but Hilmot does have good benefits and social networking opportunities. HR is understanding and will work with you during a life changing event. Within certain occupations telecommuting is available. The company tries to use technologies to its advantage. Hilmot is fortunate enough to have an IT person who has 15+ years experience and is from a time when IT students learned the the skills to manage infrastructure, security, administration and programming for servers and networks. Hilmot was a great place to work. I hope they get back to being a 5 star place to work again. The majority of the people are still great to work with.

Cons

Why Gilmore has dropped to 2 stars. With in the last six months the company has had a new executive manager take over. The new executive manager has made decisions, changes and expectations without clear communication to other managers or employees. Established workflows and procedures were gotten rid of and not clearly replace. Workflow and procedudures change from day to day. There is a serious lack of communication between workgroups. With all the uncertantity, communication has now also broken down within workgroups. This has resulted in a lot of finger pointing when things get behind or are late. Currenty there is a turn over of people who have been with the company for a long period of time (5+ years). Mostly these people have quite but, a few have been fired for disagreeing with the new executive managers that took over this year. The loss of the experience and influence of these people is being felt through out the company. The instability and uncertainty has affected the general mood of the work place. When new people come on board there is not any real training or on boarding other than HR. If there is anything remotely close to training it is from anyone who has a few minutes. The person showing you your job has most likely only been with the company for 6 to 12 months. You are pretty much on your own to figure things out. Currently most areas are understaffed and the current staff is expected to keep up with the work load. On one hand the company promotes life balance. But the majority of the engineering staff, project managers and installers work 12 to 16 hours a day. For a company of 200 employees there is only one IT person who does everything and is also the facilities manager. This results in long wait times to get non-urgent IT tasks addressed. The current environment is unstable and difficult.

Pros

A lot of good people work here, and it is seemingly a relaxed atmosphere.

Cons

People are not taken seriously and their opinions are not valued to upper management. The new ownership just wants to make the company exactly the same as their previous company. Middle management is useless and inexperienced in all of their roles. People that are quiet do well and are left to do nothing all day. Good luck getting anything done if you do not fit into the existing clique. People that are driven to make positive changes will be put down and will not be allowed to give their opinions. They would rather keep the status quo than listen to their employees. They treat their production level employees like animals and do not respect the work that they do for the company. Safety is considered a nuisance by the management team and safety improvements are ignored for more profits. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the upper management focused on making thank you videos they forced the company to watch instead of investing in safety processes and ppe equipment. All middle and upper management started working from home, while the production team worked without provided masks. They still worked very closely to each other and delivered parts hand to hand. The management worked very hard to do the least they could do while still following the minimum requirements from the government. The company is slowly transitioning from Milwaukee to where the new ownership is in Ohio. They stopped investing in anything in Milwaukee and started phasing out roles in Milwaukee and re-hiring that role in Ohio. I would not start a job here in Milwaukee if you are hoping to stay there.
