Pros

Great team. Relaxed, yet productive culture. The team is into continuous learning, and they're very supportive of their employees. The software genuinely saves time and money for doctors, and helps contribute to better health outcomes.

Cons

Small "in-office" presence, if that's important to you. Many people are remote (about half the team). But they do a pretty good job of making it work.

Pros

* Pay was good, remote collaboration pretty effective. * As others mentioned, benefits are pretty nice! Half day Friday once a month, yearly company retreat that's fully covered. * Some people are really nice but they are in the minority.

Cons

* They did demotions that aren't based on individual performance at the same time as layoffs in February 2025. Imagine losing your title for no reason! * So many unstated expectations. Because the company isn't accustomed to bringing new people in AND because it has a culture where trust is earned(as opposed to given from the start), that means the only way you can learn about team processes & expectations is through failing. * There's a huge pressure to become profitable from investors but leadership doesn't have a vision or path forward so the company tries a bunch of things, none of which fall into place. I'm sure the strategy of demoting people & reducing headcount when engineering was already spread thin will turn out great! * "Everyone here has tenure for 5-10 years & retention rates are high" is a red flag! Didn't know it at the time of joining, but the statistic for newly hired employees is terrible in comparison. Majority of people doesn't make it past 1 year, either quitting, getting fired or already secretly job searching. * Product sector is not held accountable for their mistakes. Despite engineering building what's asked of us, ultimately we're the ones to blame when projects PMs pick don't provide business value. * Speaking of product, there were times when hard deadlines were not communicated to the eng teams. And then eng was to blame for not making the deadline. * I commonly would chat with other engineers at the company in terms of how bad things are getting & how it will likely be downhill from here. People don't post negative reviews here enough. * Company kept cutting healthcare benefits. I stayed there for 2 years, so 2 times they got cheaper & cheaper plans offered.

Pros

I love the people of Hint and the work that they are doing. Hint is working in healthcare without the slow and frustrating pace of the rest of the industry. Highlights: - Very remote-friendly while maintaining a friendly office/'watercooler' feel with most videos on in Zoom meetings, very active Slack communication, and emphasis on culture and employee satisfaction. The people who work at Hint are genuinely wonderful people and you get to know them well despite distance. - Leadership and managers are generally very approachable, transparent, conscientious, and responsive. There is a general air of respect where junior and senior employees have an equal voice. - The work is exciting and variable, and the people here have drive and great ideas. It's hard to be bored.

Cons

There is a huge culture and D&I drive, which is inarguably important and needs to be done in every workplace, including this one. The work being put in is commendable and a big plus of working here. However, as a team, we have taken on a huge workload and it sometimes feels that a disproportionate amount of time is spent on just discussing culture. Contributing to company culture is a competency on which each employee is evaluated during reviews (meaning if you don't participate on committees/social activities, it can reflect negatively). The opinions of the majority are loud, and while I personally share them, it can be intimidating both to participate and to not participate. Honestly, I wouldn't change anything, but I imagine this environment might not be right for everyone, especially if you expect your work to be 'just' work.
