Pros

The non Senior staff employees are family oriented and are hard workers. There are some members of the team that help to raise morale but they are not heard by Senior staff nor its President. The services being provided are of value.

Cons

I spent one year working here before I felt a bit of the old "bait and switch." I think the most noticeable difference between this organization and everywhere I've ever worked, which includes the nonprofit and private sectors, is that there are absolutely no incentives that come with this job. You have your salary and that's it! I think it has to do with the fact that the Senior management (up through the current and former presidents) do not possess the experience of working at other companies, as most have only worked their entire careers at this one. I will be referring to it as a company as it makes more sense to call it such as opposed to an organization, as the business structure aligns much more with a company and less of an organization. To be more specific about what you probably most want to hear about: There are no Summer Friday's, there is no discussion as to a potential 4-day work week, no option to arrive at an earlier time slot and leave at an earlier one, there is no option to work remotely from a different city, and increasingly the staff is required to come into the office as work from home is being phased out and eventually will be a thing of the past. Additionally, for those who do come into the office daily there is no extra perks for them, no free lunch on Friday's, no calculation in terms of  a greater raise. Moreover, the company has not sponsored any group retreat or function to boost morale, not before, nor during, nor after the pandemic. I would suggest that if you are looking for a living wage with sufficient increases to account for the rising costs of inflation to look somewhere else. Currently,  the staff have received anywhere from 3% to 5% increases for the past several years regardless of the fact that the company has more than tripled its revenue since 2020. This is simply not enough! In short, this company boosts of a mission of helping others but is rather lackluster when it comes to helping its own! This company receives a tremendous amount of funding from the Lin-Manuel Miranda enterprise and Hispanic Federation has an ethical responsibility to use this money benevolently by helping its employees who are providing all its services.  For a company that aims to help people, the Hispanic Federation would gain a lot from the old airline adage, " Place your mask on yourself first before you help others". Unless you are a consultant aiming to restructure the entire pay schematic considering the 9% increase in inflation versus the max 5% raises given, I would suggest applying to Make The Road NY or the many other Hispanic led and serving organizations that cater to its people, all of its people. Pa'lante!

Pros

You are helping the Hispanic community.

Cons

There has yet to be any support of leadership and a lot of dictation. In better words, there is the group of managers who have been there forever, and then there is everyone else. There is no middle in between! You are not allowed to make mistakes but must be given the tools or training. It's like, here you go, figure it out. And the work environment could be better; it is uncombable to be there. I also would like to highlight that FINANCE personnel are horrible and unkind; there is one in particular who makes it her business to make the process a nightmare. You are expected to use YOUR OWN money to cover or pay for things, but the process of getting reimbursed makes you want to avoid bothering. They are a MESS, but it is not their fault, always YOURS.

Pros

Great mission. People have best intentions to do good work. Has good reputation on the outside.

Cons

Internal operations can be highly chaotic and stressful as staff are exploited and expected to wear too many hats. Management is abusive. Yelling, backbiting and gaslighting are commonly done against people who may not be a part of the senior management clique. The common nonprofit phenomena where promotions are made of people for having excelled in program, while greatly lacking and never were taught leadership skills holds true in this organization. If you look closely, you will find consistent staff turnover with the exception of "the clique of about 8." If you've ever experienced an abusive, hostile relationship or work environment and excelled, then this is the place for you. If you are Black and/or a women and not part of "the clique," be prepared to experience additional slights here. Independent, creative thinking is not appreciated here, only at face value. Fragile egos and micromanaging are commonplace.
