    I worked at Hoare Lea full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Established brand, few nice people

    Cons

    * Salaries much lower than the average industry rates
    * The reward for hard-earned promotions is a joke!
    * Unrealistic deadlines
    * Unpaid and unappreciated overtime
    * Incompetent and highly political management
    * Tolerated culture of bullying
    * Favouritism and cliques
    * Old fashioned and unwilling to make fundamental changes
    * Spending time making political connections is favoured over dedication and hard work
    * Once you’ve been labelled as an outsider, the middle managers (supported by the higher levels) will make your life hard
    * Male dominated and not female-friendly unless you’re in HR or admin

    Advice to Management

    * Be more human and bring greater diversity and morality into the management system
    * Oversee the power of the middle management, and observe those who are actually doing the work
    * Bring good examples of true leadership rather than just management
    * Pure focus on financial profit without caring about employees health, well-being and professional progress will make good people leave and demoralise those who stay

    I worked at Hoare Lea full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good environment for engineers starting out with clear progression, yearly salary reviews and help with professional development. If you don't have a masters degree they give you sponsorship to help you get it part time while you are working with them. Lots of social activities.
    Plenty of big projects to work on and make a name for yourself. The latest technology in MEP is available. Opportunities to do research projects on your own new ideas or concepts.

    Cons

    It is a very who-you-know place. The people that spend time building relationships are the ones who do best. Being a hardworking team player will not be enough. You will need to have people higher up on your side to get recognised. Most engineers tend to be introverts so this is not the best environment for them. This is why a lot of people end up leaving. Also salary was lower than most graduate engineering positions.

    Advice to Management

    It may be difficult to see how the environment affects people. But do try to realise that there a cliques culture at the company and this is affecting a lot of people. Apart from that, it is great company with plenty of big projects to put your name on.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

    Partners need to be more human about how they approach staff.

    Partners need to speak with one voice.

    Partner need to be less selfish and need to live the one firm mantra.

    Celebrate success, appreciate loyalty and acknowledge core personal who are the heart of the company.
